Every EAT Meeting will start at least 10 minutes early to give everyone a chance to connect with one another, chat, get a drink, and enjoy our EAT Playlist! If you have song recommendations or would like to present at future EAT meetings, email Public Information Officer, ena ganguly at enakshi.ganguly@austintexas.gov.
You don't have to register to join but you do have to create or sign in to a free Zoom account to join the meeting. This may pose a barrier for folks to join, but we are trying to keep this space as secure as possible for attendees. If you feel we can do a better job of keeping the space secure and more accessible, please let us know!

Tappy Guide is looking for volunteers!
Tappy Guide is seeking compassionate volunteers to serve as navigation guides for people with disabilities in a pilot program coordinated with Austin Transportation and Ford Mobility through the City:One Challenge in 2019. During the pilot, a caller will open the mobile app and
|
|
|
|
|
place a video call which will be answered by a live guide. The guide will have access to the caller’s GPS location and live video feed from the caller's camera. Volunteers will be able to serve as guides from the convenience of their own home and schedule shifts based on their availability. Volunteers will also be provided software and sensitivity training developed by mobility specialists from the Texas School of the Blind.
Through the City: One Challenge, the project team worked with several community partners and community members to identify major barriers in accessing healthy living in East Austin. After eight months of research, community engagement, and equity training, Tappy Guide was selected as one of the winners of the Challenge and awarded support to pilot and launch their application with the City. Over the last year the application has been developed and beta testing has begun.

ATX Walk Bike Roll: Help Us Make Walking, Biking and Rolling Easier for Everyone

The City of Austin requests your feedback on plans to expand mobility options that could help get more people outside. ATX Walk Bike Roll is a project to update the Urban Trails, Bikeway, and Sidewalk Plans. The City has grown since the plans were last updated over five years ago. Since then, the Urban Trails, Bicycle, and Sidewalk Programs have received a combined amount of $306.5 million dollars through the 2016, 2018 and 2020 Mobility Bonds.
What is ATX Walk Bike Roll?
Austin Public Works and Austin Transportation’s process to update Austin’s sidewalk, urban trails, and bicycle plans! These plans influence where and how you walk, bike, and roll in Austin. Equity and inclusion are at the center of ATX Walk Bike Roll. We’re working to improve how you move through Austin, while also addressing the unique transportation challenges that people of color, lower-income people, people with disabilities, and other underrepresented groups face. Together, we can create a healthier city that has more ways for residents to save money getting wherever they need to go.

The City of Austin Equity Office is excited to announce the opening of the first-ever Immigrant Integration Grant fund. A total of $100,000 with each award amount up to $10,000 is available to fund projects focused on eliminating structural barriers and/or improving the quality of life for the City's immigrant communities in order to increase their sense of welcoming and belonging. Register your kids for Spark Change Camp!
The purpose of Spark Change Camp is to empower 6th-12th grade girls* of color to gain confidence in their identities and become community engaged leaders.
Spark Change Camp will take place 9 AM - 4:30 PM from Monday, August 2nd - Friday, August 6th at Huston-Tillotson University. Daily programming, led by 5 high school facilitators, will cover the themes of identity, discrimination, communication skills, and self-care. Participants will engage with powerful community leaders, participate in activities focused on leadership and community engagement, and apply newly acquired skills to real service-learning projects in the Austin community. Ultimately, you’ll find your activist voice so you can advocate for justice in your own community!
As an added bonus, camp attendees will have the opportunity to gain up to 40 community service hours through attending camp and receive a swag bag from local Black and brown businesses.
*Although the overall mission of the Spark Change Project is to amplify the voices of Black and Brown girls, this is a gender diverse event that is open to all girls and non-binary folks.

Community Engagement Focus Groups on Quality of Life for people with disabilities in Austin:
The City of Austin has partnered with Public Consulting Group LLC (PCG) to study the Quality of Life for people with disabilities in Austin.
PCG is seeking people to participate in focus groups so we can understand more about the disabled community who are living and/or working in Austin. Discussions from the focus groups will help us design a survey that captures the experience of people with disabilities living and/or working in Austin.
PCG is seeking people who will participate and talk about the general and broader experiences for most people with disabilities. We hope to have 6-9 people attend each focus group and would like the focus groups to represent different disabilities/needs. Focus groups registration will be capped so that robust conversations can occur with all attendees. These meetings may only take one hour; however, we have scheduled them for 90 minutes to allow plenty of time for discussion.
To allow input from all groups, we are asking that participants attend one focus group only. Please sign up for the focus group that best aligns with how you identify in the disability community and/or your availability.

Austin Transportation seeking stories for Vision Zero!
The Vision Zero team has been working to connect with families and friends who have direct experiences with car crashes. We are asking your help to spread our call for stories from people impacted by crashes through your organization’s various social media or email channels and/or any of your personal connections in the community. In particular, we want to emphasize the need for stories from those in our community who are overrepresented or a growing share of traffic crash victims (Black / African American and Hispanic /Latinx communities) to ensure they have an opportunity to share their experiences.

MetroBike is making long-term service improvements and would like your input!
These improvements include expanding the number of bikes and stations, integrating with existing and planned CapMetro transit services, improving services and reaching communities outside the downtown core, and providing an all-electric fleet. These changes will take time, require funding, and will build from the existing network.

Zilker Vision Plan is seeking input!
As a regional park that draws people from all over the Austin area and beyond, the community engagement process will connect with community members throughout Austin. Visitors who come to Zilker from outside Austin can also provide input. The engagement process will focus efforts throughout the 10 City Council Districts of Austin, relying on digital engagement to ensure safety during the pandemic. Community engagement began in November 2020 with the initial community survey. You can explore the community engagement plan here (PDF). The plan may be updated to address new opportunities.

The Austin Youth Poet Laureate program aims to identify and uplift young writers and leaders who are committed to poetry and performance, as well as civic and community engagement, across Austin. The Austin Youth Poet Laureate will have numerous opportunities and platforms to share their voice, leadership, and love of Austin.
