Project Connect Update!
The Austin Transit Partnership is moving forward with a series of Public Meetings for Project Connect beginning July 27. During these meetings, the Project Connect team will unveil the 15% design for the Orange and Blue light rail transit lines.

Project Connect will conduct a series of virtual public meetings for the proposed Orange and Blue Lines beginning on Tuesday, July 27, 2020, at 5:30 p.m. You can visit  ProjectConnect.org/get-involved to view all of the virtual public meetings occurring between July 27 and Aug. 5.

As you may recall from previous communications, the Austin Transit Partnership held three Board Meetings this summer on May 19, June 16 and July 21, where the Project Connect team has provided updates on the Orange and Blue Line alignments and continued community outreach. Meeting presentations and video recordings can be found here.

Further public outreach and community engagement has progressed over the last several months through various committees including:

In addition to public meetings and open houses, the Project Connect team has launched a series of working groups to engage at the neighborhood level along the proposed routes for both the Orange and Blue Lines. The first Blue Line working groups were held in May, and the first Orange Line working groups were held in June. The second round will be incorporated into the July public meeting series. Learn more here: https://capmetro.org/project-connect/groups.

In addition, the Community Engagement team has been meeting with neighborhoods, adjacent property owners, special interest groups and other stakeholders. Outreach will continue throughout the fall with a focus on MetroRapid. CapMetro also launched the new Pickup service in June, as part of the Project Connect System. This new local rideshare program will bring on-demand public transportation to the Dessau area. The Pickup program will expand to the South Menchaca and North Oak Hill areas in the coming months.

Get Involved!

As part of this round of engagement, the community is invited to give input on the proposed Orange and Blue Line projects. Comments may be submitted using any of the following methods:

  • By email to: BlueLine@capmetro.org; OrangeLine@capmetro.org

Tappy Guide is looking for volunteers!

Tappy Guide is seeking compassionate volunteers to serve as navigation guides for people with disabilities in a pilot program coordinated with Austin Transportation and Ford Mobility through the City:One Challenge in 2019. During the pilot, a caller will open the mobile app and

place a video call which will be answered by a live guide. The guide will have access to the caller’s GPS location and live video feed from the caller's camera. Volunteers will be able to serve as guides from the convenience of their own home and schedule shifts based on their availability. Volunteers will also be provided software and sensitivity training developed by mobility specialists from the Texas School of the Blind.

Through the City: One Challenge, the project team worked with several community partners and community members to identify major barriers in accessing healthy living in East Austin. After eight months of research, community engagement, and equity training, Tappy Guide was selected as one of the winners of the Challenge and awarded support to pilot and launch their application with the City. Over the last year the application has been developed and beta testing has begun.

To learn more about this program or volunteer for the pilot, please contact Hannah Barron at

Austin Transportation seeking stories for Vision Zero!

The Vision Zero team has been working to connect with families and friends who have direct experiences with car crashes. We are asking your help to spread our call for stories from people impacted by crashes through your organization’s various social media or email channels and/or any of your personal connections in the community. In particular, we want to emphasize the need for stories from those in our community who are overrepresented or a growing share of traffic crash victims (Black / African American and Hispanic /Latinx communities) to ensure they have an opportunity to share their experiences.
