You don't have to register to join but you do have to create or sign in to a free Zoom account to join the meeting. This may pose a barrier for folks to join, but we are trying to keep this space as secure as possible for attendees. Apply for The Youth Forest Council!
The Youth Forest Council provides an opportunity for young people to use their unique skills and talents to support our urban forest. Everyone brings something important to the table. While the main focus of the Youth Forest Council is forestry and environmental stewardship, we encourage young people with interests in arts, community organizing, business, and more to apply.
Youth Forest Council members are:
- Curious about our environment and interested in exploring careers related to it
- Passionate about getting involved in their community
- Able to attend 1 full council meeting and 1 visiting leader meeting each month
- Able to work about 10-15 hours per month for a full year (January – December 2022)
There are no academic requirements for participation in the Youth Forest Council.
The Urban Forest Program seeks to enhance Austin’s quality of life by fostering a healthy urban forest for all. In alignment with the City of Austin’s Strategic Direction 2023, we highly encourage young people from communities of color and communities facing systemic barriers to apply.

What you will need to apply:
Timeline and deadlines:
- Youth Forest Council Member Applications are due by 11:59 pm on Sunday, October 10, 2021.
- Recommendation Forms are due by 11:59 pm on Sunday, October 17, 2021 (one week after Member Applications).
- Following the Recommendation Form deadline of October 17, 2021, all completed applications will be reviewed by Urban Forest Program staff. After this point, applicants will be contacted regarding next steps, including interview decisions.
If accepted:
If selected to participate, applicants will become employees of the City of Austin and must follow all City rules and policies. Youth Forest Council members must agree to do their best to represent the City's Urban Forest Program in their communities with respect and professionalism. Additionally, accepted Youth Forest Council members will be required to:
- Complete necessary hiring documents and verify their work eligibility with acceptable documents
- Attend a 30-minute in-person session with our human resources representative to review paperwork and provide copies of work eligibility documents
- Attend an orientation either virtually or in-person (this will be evaluated based on public health recommendations as defined by Austin Public Health)
More information regarding these processes will be sent following acceptance decisions.
ART HEALS FESTIVAL ADDS BLAQ AWARDS AND CELEBRATES BLACK AND QUEER CONTRIBUTIONS TO AUSTIN
In observance of LBGTQIA+ Suicide Prevention Awareness Day, WhatsintheMirror? present its second annual Arts Heals Festival including the 5th Annual BlaQ Awards and the 5th Annual Night of Love. This one-day multidisciplinary art festival will highlight social justice issues and advocate to eliminate HIV and mental /health stigma through a healing justice framework on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at the George Washington Carver Museum in Austin, Texas.
The goals of the Art Heals Festival are to:
Provide an inclusive and impactful platform that engages the community around social justice topics through artistic expression
Celebrate black queer contributions to the art and social community in Austin
Hold brave spaces for meaningful involvement of people living with HIV and/or mental health conditions and all gender identities and body types
The festival will also feature the following artists and more:
Performances by local performance artists, including Theo Love
DJ sets from Legendary Chicago’s own DJ Shani
And more to announce.
We will also honor and celebrate the contributions from:

*Natalie Sanders
*Yolanda Daniels, & more.

Submissions open September 1 - 30, 2021
Austin Public Library’s Electric Lady Bird (ELB) delivers commercial-free, curated music from Central Texas artists. The Live Music Capital's best is served up, 24/7, through a user-friendly digital music platform.
Want your music in this collection? Well, we do too! We welcome and encourage submissions from artists who are Black, Indigenous, people of color, immigrant, international, performers in languages other than English and/or otherwise from communities underrepresented in U.S.
Upload 1-3 full-length tracks representative of your overall work to the submission form. The tracks should be from a full album or EP released within the last 2 years that you own the rights to. More details are at our FAQ.
Jurors from the Austin music community will select the best albums. Selected musicians will be awarded $200.00 for their album/EP. In exchange, the Library will receive non-exclusive rights to stream the album/EP for a 3-year term. If selected, you will be contacted with instructions on how to join Electric Lady Bird.

La convocatoria estará abierta del 1 al 31 de septiembre, 2021.
¿Quiere incluir su música en esta colección? ¡Nosotros también queremos que lo haga! Tappy Guide is looking for volunteers!
Tappy Guide is seeking compassionate volunteers to serve as navigation guides for people with disabilities in a pilot program coordinated with Austin Transportation and Ford Mobility through the City:One Challenge in 2019. During the pilot, a caller will open the mobile app and
|

place a video call which will be answered by a live guide. The guide will have access to the caller’s GPS location and live video feed from the caller's camera. Volunteers will be able to serve as guides from the convenience of their own home and schedule shifts based on their availability. Volunteers will also be provided software and sensitivity training developed by mobility specialists from the Texas School of the Blind.
Through the City: One Challenge, the project team worked with several community partners and community members to identify major barriers in accessing healthy living in East Austin. After eight months of research, community engagement, and equity training, Tappy Guide was selected as one of the winners of the Challenge and awarded support to pilot and launch their application with the City. Over the last year the application has been developed and beta testing has begun.

Austin Transportation seeking stories for Vision Zero!
The Vision Zero team has been working to connect with families and friends who have direct experiences with car crashes. We are asking your help to spread our call for stories from people impacted by crashes through your organization’s various social media or email channels and/or any of your personal connections in the community. In particular, we want to emphasize the need for stories from those in our community who are overrepresented or a growing share of traffic crash victims (Black / African American and Hispanic /Latinx communities) to ensure they have an opportunity to share their experiences.

MetroBike is making long-term service improvements and would like your input!
These improvements include expanding the number of bikes and stations, integrating with existing and planned CapMetro transit services, improving services and reaching communities outside the downtown core, and providing an all-electric fleet. These changes will take time, require funding, and will build from the existing network.

Contracted Warm Line Operators are key and critical for peers connecting with peers. This position makes the Warm Line a warm and welcoming place. Warm Line Operators call and connect with peers and assist, if necessary, in finding community resources. We believe that peer-to-peer connections are powerful, and that everyone deserves to have the support they need to thrive, therefore, sharing their own lived experience of mental health challenges to build trust and hope is utilized. As a Warm Line Operator, you will gain on-the-job experience in the mental health and nonprofit fields, build peer support skills through our training program, learn more about other local resources and community-based organizations, and help our callers feel heard, understood, and supported by someone who has also been there. This position is for the new Peer Recovery Services Program which is grant funded.
CONTRACTED FACILITATOR- $200-$700/mth
Contracted Facilitator is contracted through Austin Area Mental Health Consumers. Work hours include day, evening, and weekend options. Work involves telling your recovery story, providing structured support groups around the Austin area for 1 hour, providing end of the month reports using documents provided by the contractor, and attending a monthly Facilitator meeting. Works under general supervision with latitudes for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Support group topic suggestions: coping skills, WRAP, wellness and recovery strategies, creative expressions (arts), Co-occurring recovery, and self-support.

The Library Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of the Austin Youth Poet Laureate Program in collaboration with the Austin Public Library and the National Youth Poet Laureate Program led by Urban Word. This year, Austin will join over 40 other cities with Youth Poet Laureate programs.
The Austin Youth Poet Laureate program aims to identify and uplift young writers and leaders who are committed to poetry and performance, as well as civic and community engagement, across Austin. The Austin Youth Poet Laureate will have numerous opportunities and platforms to share their voice, leadership, and love of Austin.
