The Equity Action Team (EAT) is a coalition of community members and City of Austin staff focused on advancing racial equity in our communities through partnerships with City departments, non-profits, philanthropic entities and community-based groups. The EAT meetings are dedicated to critical discussions and strategizing on how to best improve the quality of life for most directly impacted communities in Austin. Join the EAT and find more information on the dashboard.

 

Everyone is welcome to join the EAT! As a member, your responsibility is to attend and bring your community with you. During our meetings, we hear from community members and City staff to understand community needs and City projects and work together to produce better outcomes for all.

Attend the Quality of Life Commissions Townhalls!

Join the City of Austin Quality of Life Commissions to share interests and concerns about your quality of life in Austin. We want to hear from you about what the City needs to prioritize to uplift and improve the quality of life for all Austinites.

 

The Quality of Life Townhalls will be hosted in a hybrid format, with both in-person and virtual participation over Zoom. Catered food, supervised children's activities, and language interpretation will be provided (Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese (Simplified), and ASL interpretation). You may request a language interpreter by calling 3-1-1 no later than five days before the meeting you wish to attend. The questions we ask in the following form will only be used to measure the success of our outreach and engagement for this event and help us improve in the future. However, all of these questions are completely optional, as this information becomes a public record and can be made public by a public information request.

The Law, Societies, and Justice Initiative together with the College of Education is pleased to announce a call for proposals for the 2022-23 Research Awards competition. These awards are intended to provide resources to scholars and/or practitioners to complete innovative research projects on issues related to law, societies, and justice with policy and practice relevance.

 

Apply for the Art in Public Places Program!

The City of Austin Economic Development Department Art in Public Places (AIPP) Program has 9 public art opportunities open now! Artwork locations include: Dougherty Arts Center (DAC), Montopolis Neighborhood Park and Beverly S. Sheffield Northwest District Park Pools, 3 New Fire/EMS Stations, and the Mexic-Arte Museum. Budgets for these public art projects range from $44,00 to $260,000. Artists should apply via www.PublicArtist.org/AustinAIPP by December 21, 2022 @ 5 pm CST to be considered!

The City of Austin and Austin Young Chamber are seeking material suppliers for the annual [RE]verse Pitch competition. If your organization has excess material that could be reused or repurposed, consider applying to be a [RE]verse Pitch Material Supplier.

This competition allows social entrepreneurs to pitch ideas for a new or expanding social enterprise using raw materials leaving local businesses, non-profits and institutions. Materials include industrial scrap, byproducts or other waste streams.

Apply to Join the Community Advisory Committee!

Austin/Travis County’s first food plan, to be developed over the next 18 months, will engage multiple sectors of the food system to determine how we can make strides towards a more local, sustainable and just food system that serves everyone in our community. 

 

The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) will support the Office of Sustainability in developing the city’s first Food Plan. CAC members can receive compensation, transportation support, and other accommodations for their participation. 

 

Any community member who feels impacted by the current food system is encouraged to apply. Front-line workers, recipients of food assistance, those who are or have experienced hunger or uncertainty about where their next meal will come from, and others not typically included in traditional planning efforts are especially encouraged to consider serving on the CAC.

Historic preservation recognizes and safeguards Austin’s rich and complex history and can play an important role in shaping the future. Older buildings are more sustainable, support affordable housing, and help small businesses and arts organizations to start and grow. They also foster a sense of place by preserving distinctive streets and neighborhoods. Meanwhile, cultural heritage adds meaning and a sense of belonging to places and communities. 

 

Led by a community working group, Austin is developing a draft equity-based preservation plan to replace the City’s 1981 preservation plan. You are invited to share what’s important to you and sign up for updates about the plan at publicinput.com/ATXpresplan.

The Governance Manager is responsible for working with ECHO staff and Governance, to develop workplans of Leadership Council and to ensure that Leadership Council and associated committees and workgroups are tracking progress of assigned activities. This position will work to build a strong coalition of stakeholders who are engaged in governance activities and community-wide strategies used to end homelessness and increase the opportunities in which persons with lived experience of homelessness are involved in decision-making spaces that direct the policies and procedures which govern the homeless response system.
