The City of Austin’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) will host monthly Emergency Preparedness Pop-Up events in each of Austin’s City Council Districts throughout 2023. These events are designed to help equip Austinites with the information, tools and resources needed in emergency situations. Community members are invited to attend these three-hour open house style events.
At these events, Austinites will learn more about geographical risks in their area and how to prepare for them, and the four steps to preparedness: make a plan, build a kit, know your neighbors, and stay informed. The first 50 guests will receive a basic emergency preparedness supply kit while supplies last, limit one per person / household.
Interpretation services will be available in Spanish and ASL at each event. The public can request additional language interpreters by calling 3-1-1 at least five days before the event you wish to attend. View the full schedule here.

LGBTQ history and education are under attack. That’s why it’s so important that we find new ways to save and share our stories.
Join the Invisible Histories Project and a group of scholars from all over the US on Saturday February 25th from 11am-3pm Central Time as we say no to erasure and provide mini-presentations on topics like AIDS organizing, Black Queer spaces, and much much more! Registration is free but is required in order to access the zoom link.

Overton Elementary will be holding a career far on
March 8th from 8am-11am and are looking for people in environmental/outdoor careers to come represent their job at the fair! Bilingual Spanish speakers would be very much appreciated as many students are emerging bilinguals with Spanish as their first language. The fair is divided into two parts

Attend the Soil Kitchen!
Food gardeners, stop by Pop-up ATX for Austin’s next Soil Kitchen! Soil kitchens are a unique opportunity to find out what nutrients may be lacking in your home garden and if any harmful contaminants are present. Correctly prepared soil samples will be collected and sent to certified experts who will screen and test the soil. Results will be made available four to six weeks after the event. Get Connected with the Affordable Connectivity Program!
The Affordable Connectivity Program is an FCC program that helps connect families and households struggling to afford internet service.
The Affordable Connectivity Program provides:
- Up to $30/month discount for broadband service;
- A one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet purchased through a participating provider if the household contributes more than $10 but less than $50 toward the purchase price.
The Affordable Connectivity Program is limited to one monthly service discount and one device discount per household.
Apply to the Creative Space Assistance Program!
Independent artists leasing commercial studio space; non-profit arts organizations; and for-profit live music venues, performance spaces, and art galleries can apply to the Creative Space Assistance Program during the application period. Eligible applicant creative spaces must be located within the Austin city limits or a surrounding Extraterritorial Jurisdiction and operate within appropriately zoned commercial spaces. Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis and scored according to access to services, compelling project need, urgency, co-location, community benefit, equity, and new recipient status.
When the application opens on January 24, a webinar to learn more about the program and application process will be available for review on the Creative Space Assistance Program website.
