Join Watershed Protection Department for Floodplain Study Updates!
The City of Austin has begun a five-year effort to update floodplain maps in the Austin area. The new maps have not been created yet, but the property referenced above is either in or near a floodplain that will be mapped. Depending on the local topography, this property may ultimately be affected. Floodplain maps show which areas are likely to flood when a creek overflows its banks. The maps andassociated computer models are important tools to make our community safer from flooding. We use them to
inform residents of flood risk, determine where and how new developments can be built, size detention ponds and drainage pipes, and design projects to help reduce our flood risk.

Share Insights for APH's 2023 Basic Needs Survey!
Basic Needs programs provide services to the general population experiencing low income in Austin and Travis County. The goal of basic needs services is to support individuals and families to move from survival to self-sufficiency. Note: Housing and homeless services are funded through separate funding categories and are not part of this funding scope.
Apply to the Creative Space Assistance Program!
Independent artists leasing commercial studio space; non-profit arts organizations; and for-profit live music venues, performance spaces, and art galleries can apply to the Creative Space Assistance Program during the application period. Eligible applicant creative spaces must be located within the Austin city limits or a surrounding Extraterritorial Jurisdiction and operate within appropriately zoned commercial spaces. Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis and scored according to access to services, compelling project need, urgency, co-location, community benefit, equity, and new recipient status.
When the application opens on January 24, a webinar to learn more about the program and application process will be available for review on the Creative Space Assistance Program website.

Apply to Join the Community Advisory Committee!
Austin/Travis County’s first food plan, to be developed over the next 18 months, will engage multiple sectors of the food system to determine how we can make strides towards a more local, sustainable and just food system that serves everyone in our community.
The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) will support the Office of Sustainability in developing the city’s first Food Plan. CAC members can receive compensation, transportation support, and other accommodations for their participation.
Any community member who feels impacted by the current food system is encouraged to apply. Front-line workers, recipients of food assistance, those who are or have experienced hunger or uncertainty about where their next meal will come from, and others not typically included in traditional planning efforts are especially encouraged to consider serving on the CAC.
