Apply to Join the Community Advisory Committee!

 

Austin/Travis County’s first food plan, to be developed over the next 18 months, will engage multiple sectors of the food system to determine how we can make strides towards a more local, sustainable and just food system that serves everyone in our community. 

 

The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) will support the Office of Sustainability in developing the city’s first Food Plan. CAC members can receive compensation, transportation support, and other accommodations for their participation. 

 

Any community member who feels impacted by the current food system is encouraged to apply. Front-line workers, recipients of food assistance, those who are or have experienced hunger or uncertainty about where their next meal will come from, and others not typically included in traditional planning efforts are especially encouraged to consider serving on the CAC. If this sounds like you or someone you know, please apply by Friday, November 4th at 11:59pm. 

El primer plan alimentario de Austin/Condado de Travis, que se desarrollará en los siguientes 18 meses, contará con la participación de múltiples sectores del sistema alimentario para determinar cómo podemos avanzar hacia un sistema más local, sostenible y justo que sirva a todos los miembros de nuestra comunidad.

Attend an Austin Water Workshop!

 

Join Austin Water for virtual and in-person community workshops to discuss Austin’s Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) project. ASR is a water supply strategy to store available water in an aquifer for later recovery and use.

 

At the workshops, staff will share information about ASR, collect your valuable feedback on criteria and the equity and affordability process that is informing this project, and answer your questions.

Attend a Historic Landmark Commission Training!

 

Preservation Austin is hosting commission training for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) members of the Austin community. I would love your help getting the word out to potential participants. This project came out of a discussion that this group had about the need to increase racial and ethnic representation on the Historic Landmark Commission:

Preservation Austin will host a FREE virtual Historic Landmark Commission training for BIPOC community members on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 from 5:30pm to 8pm. Training will be provided by the National Alliance for Preservation Commissions (NAPC) through its Commission Assistance and Mentoring Program (CAMP).

This training will cover Legal Basics and Standards & Guidelines to prepare participants for the legal and technical frameworks needed to succeed as future commissioners and advocates. Content will focus on best practices, but also Texas and Austin-specific case studies.

Space is limited and will be capped at 30 participants. Reservations will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis through Friday, October 14. Folks should sign up here: https://forms.gle/aJvofmodrVZsu78N9


The goal of CAMP® is to provide high-quality, engaging and informative training to preservation related boards and commissions through presentations, hands-on exercises, group discussions, networking and mentoring via live training. NAPC has an exceptional team of CAMP Trainers including commissioners, local, state and national staff members, attorneys, consultants and commission partners.

Preservation Austin's mission is to empower Austinites to shape a more inclusive, resilient, and meaningful community culture through preservation. We hope to increase racial and ethnic representation on Austin's Historic Landmark Commission (HLC) and to increase racial and ethnic representation among advocates at HLC meetings.

Preservation Austin is hosting this CAMP training with support from a National Preservation Fund Grant through the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Over the next 5 years the organization will pursue many goals. The Co-ED will work closely with their fellow Co-ED as a partner but will fully own a body of work.
