EAT Update: Heat & Wildfire Dangers | Excessive Heat & Red Flag Warning for August 2nd, 2023
Dear EAT Family, 
 
The National Weather Service a Red Flag and Excessive Heat Warning for Austin and Travis County due to excessive heat and extreme fire danger. Please see below for more details and an explanation for the warning. 
 
Please be safe out there & share this information with your community. 
  • It is advised to take precautions to protect from the heat including:
    • Drinking water,
    • Taking frequent breaks
    • Wearing protective clothing, and
    • Staying inside (if possible)
  • Take precautions and prevent against wildfires by:
    • Clearing brush away from your home
    • Using fire-resistant landscaping
    • Know your potential evacuation routes
    • Have an emergency supply kit ready to go
    • Properly disposing cigarettes and matches
    • Make sure no vehicle parts drag on the ground (including tow chains)
    • Do not park a recently driven car on dry grass
    • Do not use a lawn mower on weeds or dry grass
    • Avoid outdoor burning and obey burn bans
Due to extreme heat, all Austin Park Facilities and Austin Public Library branches can serve as a Cooling Centers during normal operating hours. Service animals are permitted in City facilities. Check hours and operations before arriving.
