Tappy Guide is looking for volunteers!

Tappy Guide is seeking compassionate volunteers to serve as navigation guides for people with disabilities in a pilot program coordinated with Austin Transportation and Ford Mobility through the City:One Challenge in 2019. During the pilot, a caller will open the mobile app and

place a video call which will be answered by a live guide. The guide will have access to the caller’s GPS location and live video feed from the caller's camera. Volunteers will be able to serve as guides from the convenience of their own home and schedule shifts based on their availability. Volunteers will also be provided software and sensitivity training developed by mobility specialists from the Texas School of the Blind.

Through the City: One Challenge, the project team worked with several community partners and community members to identify major barriers in accessing healthy living in East Austin. After eight months of research, community engagement, and equity training, Tappy Guide was selected as one of the winners of the Challenge and awarded support to pilot and launch their application with the City. Over the last year the application has been developed and beta testing has begun.

UpTogether is hiring! After working with thousands of families since our founding in 2001, at UpTogether, we are certain people don’t live in poverty because they are lazy, uneducated, or mismanage money, as stereotypes would indicate. Instead, the poverty cycle, which disproportionately impacts Black and Latinx communities, can be traced to well-intentioned but inadequate governmental and charitable policies and practices that rely on a traditional top-down approach. As we grow this work and partner with philanthropy and government to adopt our approach, we are looking for our next Southwest Partnership Coordinator to help us do this work.

Below some details:

  • Remote position
  • Compensation between $55,000-$75,000
  • Entry/mid level position for someone interested in supporting the back end of our partnerships and data management
  • Person must embrace a natural passion for social and economic justice

Interested? Here is the full description that includes our values and responsibilities: https://uptogether.bamboohr.com/jobs/view.php?id=40&source=uptogether
