The Equity Action Team (EAT) is a coalition of community members and City of Austin staff focused on advancing racial equity in our communities through partnerships with City departments, non-profits, philanthropic entities and community-based groups.
The EAT meetings are dedicated to critical discussions and strategizing on how to best improve the quality of life for most directly impacted communities in Austin.
Everyone is welcome to join the EAT! As a member, your responsibility is to attend and bring your community with you. During our meetings, we hear from community members and City staff to understand community needs and City projects and work together to produce better outcomes for all.

Quality of Life Studies (QoL): Updates Across Austin Communities
- Women and Girls QoL Study: In March 2024, the City partnered with the University of Texas Dell Medical School to launch a study focused on the quality of life for women and girls in Austin. The research team and the Commission for Women’s Workgroup will review draft findings in November, with final reports and data to be delivered to the City early 2026.
- Families with Young Children QoL Study: Launched in June 2024, this study is a collaboration between the City, Decision Information Resources, Inc. (DIR), and the Early Childhood Council. Final reports have been reviewed and, along with the data, will be delivered to the City by December 2025.
- Aging Population QoL Study: In partnership with the University of Indianapolis Center for Aging and Community and Cortez Consulting Services, this study began in August 2024. The research team and the Commission on Aging’s Workgroup will review the draft reports in November. Final documents and data will be submitted to the City early 2026.
- Immigrant, Refugee, and Foreign-Born QoL Study: Launched in October 2024, this study is a partnership between the City and the National Center for Farmworker Health. In collaboration with the Commission on Immigrant Affairs Workgroup, the team has begun a community-led research process to better understand the experiences and needs of Austin’s immigrant, refugee, and foreign-born residents.
Next Steps and Coordination
-
We will reconvene in early 2026 to bring together recommendations from all studies. These combined insights will help shape the Commission’s budget proposals for the City’s 2026–2027 fiscal year.
-
Workgroups will submit their recommendations to City departments in March as part of the 2027 budget development process.
-
A public-facing platform will be developed to track the progress of implementing recommendations from the Women, Early Childhood, and Aging studies into programs, initiatives, and services.
-
Austin Equity and Inclusion will collaborate with other City departments to support the implementation of recommendations.

For November, month we recommend...
As a biracial, unenrolled tribal member and the product of a scandal, Daunis Fontaine has never quite fit in—both in her hometown and on the nearby Ojibwe reservation. When her family is struck by tragedy, Daunis puts her dreams on hold to care for her fragile mother. The only bright spot is meeting Jamie, the charming new recruit on her brother’s hockey team.
After Daunis witnesses a shocking murder that thrusts her into a criminal investigation, she agrees to go undercover. But the deceptions—and deaths—keep piling up and soon the threat strikes too close to home. How far will she go to protect her community if it means tearing apart the only world she’s ever known? |
