The Equity Action Team (EAT) is a coalition of community members and City of Austin staff focused on advancing racial equity in our communities through partnerships with City departments, non-profits, philanthropic entities and community-based groups.
The EAT meetings are dedicated to critical discussions and strategizing on how to best improve the quality of life for most directly impacted communities in Austin. Join the EAT and find more information on the dashboard.
Everyone is welcome to join the EAT! As a member, your responsibility is to attend and bring your community with you. During our meetings, we hear from community members and City staff to understand community needs and City projects and work together to produce better outcomes for all.

Today, 5 years later, Austin City Council is supporting the HOME Initiative--another attempt to change the land development code (which limits how much and what can be build on a property) to allow more units to be build on lots zoned for single-family homes (called "upzoning"). Phase 1 of HOME will allow three units per lot, and Phase 2 will allow for even more. More housing sounds good at first, but we have to think critically about what kind of housing Austin needs during a housing affordability crisis, as well as who is impacted by redevelopment.
What is the affordability level? Who is this housing for? Who profits? Who is impacted?
You can read more about the HOME Initiative here in English and Spanish from Community Powered ATX: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1idmV-npsTombWMP0flqS481AvecUFlnM0KS44ZisDcc/edit

This December, we're reading:
Explore the transformative power of the lyric essay with 'The Lyric Essay as Resistance,' an anthology curated by editors Zoë Bossiere and Erica Trabold. Featuring contributions from Melissa Febos, Torrey Peters, Jenny Boully, and other prominent voices, this collection breaks free from genre constraints, offering a diverse range of narratives on topics such as queer identity, BIPOC experiences, reproductive justice, and grief. Embrace the bold, unbound, and subversive nature of the lyric essay—a dynamic form that amplifies marginalized voices and challenges literary conventions |
