LEARNING FROM HISTORY
As Hispanic-Latino heritage month comes to a close, and we reflect on Indigenous People's Day, we wanted to share some history and also some of the present.
In an earlier edition of the EAT newsletter, we shared a digital collection from the Oakwood Cemetery. Today, we'd like to share another curated digital exhibit showing the history of the Day of the Dead in Austin.
We'd also like to recognize Chiara "Sunshine" Beaumont who was recognized as a Net Zero Hero with the Office of Sustainability. You may recognize Sunshine from their organizing work as a member of the Karankawa Clan, or for their work as an Indigenous educator and resistance artist. The Equity Office was honored to have Sunshine join us in January of this year on a panel at our Equity Forum where they spoke about art as resistance. You can take a look at what Chiara is up to by following their Instagram @Karankawachicharra
