A part of Project Connect’s Anti-Displacement initiatives, this program provides zero-percent interest forgivable and non-forgivable loans to eligible non-profit organizations for the acquisition of property that increases the supply of affordable housing. Loans are available on a rolling basis until available program funds are exhausted.
As Project Connect advances the Blue and Orange Line light rail projects, Capital Metro has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to maximize this significant public transit investment and, together with the City of Austin, set a bold, community-led vision for the future. This vision allows us to work with residents, small businesses, and organizations to explore Equitable Transit-Oriented Development (ETOD) strategies along with the Blue and Orange Lines to create inclusive, vibrant, and accessible communities that integrate residential, business, and public space all within walking distance of transit stations.
The City of Austin seeks applicants interested in guiding affordable housing investments in Austin to join the Housing Investment Review Committee (HIRC). The volunteer committee is tasked with quarterly review of affordable housing projects and ensuring that all housing development proposals comply with program guidelines. Interested applicants must complete an application by the deadline on February 1st.
ETOD is an opportunity to shape growth that lessens the displacement of local communities, preserves and encourages more housing affordability, stimulates small business growth, and creates a more equitable quality of life for all regardless of their race, income, abilities or background.
The Capital Metro Community Connectors program is recruiting 10 residents to help ensure that historically disenfranchised communities impacted by these planning processes are involved and collaborating with us.
What will you do as a Community Connector?
- Earn $25/hr.
- Receive outreach training and education on ETOD
- Discuss challenges and opportunities around housing affordability, anti-displacement, employment, and small businesses growth
- Listen, ask questions, and collect community feedback
- Plan and host educational workshops, which may be online or in person depending on COVID-19 conditions
- Conduct community interviews
- Share community input with the project team, who will use the information to develop the plans
- Provide input on the Study’s outreach approach and implementation
- Help community members understand how they can share input with Project Connect beyond this study
