Join us this Saturday at 10 am via Zoom
With the relaunch, we are recommitting ourselves to maintaining this space as one that centers the voices, experiences, and needs of directly impacted community members.
Our hope is that with this first meeting, we can agree on the collective vision of the EAT and decide on a set of community agreements to make this a safe and brave space for all. |

While millions of Ukrainians are welcomed across borders, as it should be, Haitians in the thousands are marched onto planes... and Central Americans and Mexicans travel long distances only to be turned back at the U.S. southern border... Europe, for its own part, pushes back refugees from Africa and the Middle East in great numbers.
What makes one group welcome, while others are not?
In this webinar hosted by Witness at the Border, Professors Reece Jones, award-winning author of "Violent Borders" and "White Borders," and activist-scholar Nandita Sharma, author of "Home Rule: National Sovereignty and the Separation of Natives and Migrants," join Witness Radio host Sarah Towle and executive producer Camilo Perez-Bustillo, to discuss: Who gets to move?
"For young people who identify as transgender, studies show that gender-affirming care can reduce emotional stress, improve their sense of well-being, and reduce the risk of suicide (Green, DeChants, Price & Davis, 2021). Austin Public Health supports individuals and their families in making informed decisions regarding their health care. We believe we can achieve this by having the appropriate information and support from experts in this area, including providers. We support education rooted in fact and science and the voices of those with lived experience."

Join us on Saturday, April 9th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm to Honor Joan Means Khabele at Barton Springs!
PARD will honor her courageous act of jumping into Barton Springs to protest segregation at the pool. Her bravery sparked the swim-ins, eventually leading to the desegragation of Barton Springs Pool.
The event will include a proclamation, speakers, a land acknowledgement, and water blessing ceremony performed by Geraldo Perez. The PBS documentary that features Joan Means Khabele talking about her swim in Barton Springs will also be showing that day at the pool. Additionally we will have listening booths set-up for community members to share oral histories and personal experiences regarding race and Barton Springs.
The oral histories will become a part of an exhibit (virtual and physical) that will be featured at the Beverly S. Sheffield Education Center. Over the next few years we will be collecting stories about different communities as a way to try to tell the full history of Barton Springs. This is just the beginning.
