CYA at 5th Annual Diversity Abroad Conference: Embracing the Future of Global Education

Nicholas Kondoprias (CYA’s Director of Development) and Katie Sievers (Associate Director of Campus Relations) recently attended the 5th Annual Diversity Abroad Conference which took place on March 19 – 22, 2017 in Minneapolis, MN. Among the attendees were professionals, administrators and educators striving to attract, retain and serve the needs of diverse and underrepresented students in international opportunities.

The 2017 conference marked the 10 year anniversary of Diversity Abroad, providing an opportunity for the international education community to both celebrate the progress made in expanding access and support for diverse and underrepresented students and chart a path forward toward inclusive excellence in global education. We were proud to witness a CYA summer alumnus, Hunter Zhao, receiving the Diversity Abroad Global Student Leadership Award in recognition of his commitment to the field of diversity and inclusion at his home campus, the University of Michigan. Hunter also participated in the Global Student Leadership Summit that took place in conjunction with the Diversity Abroad Conference; he is pictured below (far left) speaking in a Diversity Abroad panel made up of students from the Leadership Summit.

With our partners in the United States, CYA is committed to providing equitable access to international education. We are dedicated to creating innovative ways to connect with and support students from a variety of backgrounds. The Diversity Abroad Conference allowed us to gain a better understanding of the developments and best practices in the area of diversity, and meaningful conversations opened avenues for collaboration with other professionals in the field to better assist students from diverse and underrepresented populations pursuing international opportunities.
