CMCA Receives 2017 EPA SmartWay Affiliate Award 

As part of Earth Day, CMCA along with the American Trucking Associations (ATA) were notified that they were among nine recipients of the 2017 SmartWay Affiliate Challenge award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The SmartWay Affiliate Challenge is a national challenge developed by EPA to acknowledge organizations that are contributing to cost-effective, cleaner and more efficient shipping by reaching out to inform and educate businesses, their communities, truck drivers and other stakeholders about steps they can take to reduce freight emissions and their other environmental impacts.

EPA honored CMCA for using SmartWay criteria in a statewide awards program, offering assistance to small fleets interested in becoming SmartWay partners and educating state legislators on the benefits of developing a preference in contract awards for freight companies that demonstrate sustainability practices.
CMCA is proud to be a recipient of this prestigious award and we were the only state trucking association to receive this award this year. This is the fifth time CMCA has received the award.

According to EPA, the SmartWay program, launched in 2004, is credited with saving more than $25 billion in fuel costs and cutting carbon emissions by 73 million metric tons according to EPA data. CMCA has been happy to do its part to improve air quality and improve fuel efficiency.

Much thanks and credit go to Tracy Sakaguchi of our staff, who has done a great job in leading our efforts in the environmental area. In addition this award is also a recognition of the efforts of so many of our members who have adopted and implemented EPA SmartWay technologies and practices. Thank you for your support.
