Dear Friends,
Here we are, one day after Election Day, toward the end of what has been an intensely polarized and contentious election season all in the midst of a global pandemic. I say ‘toward the end’ rather than ‘at the end’ because we are still hours, if not days away from learning who our president will be in 2021. And if your experience has been like mine, with the not knowing and the rhetoric of fear and distrust, then these days have been for you, and will probably continue to be, a stressful and anxious time.
And here is the thing that we need to remember:
No matter what happens next… no matter when we learn the final results… no matter who will serve as our commander in chief for the next four years… we continue to be held in God’s loving and merciful embrace. We remain… everyone one of us… God’s beloved children… fearfully and wonderfully made in the Divine image. And we continue to be called by the words and example of our Savior to love our God with all we have and to love our neighbor as ourselves.
Our work continues, our calling is ongoing… but for now… in this moment… just breathe. We can do this… together. We have been preparing for this… together. This morning I awoke to this tweet from @RevJesKAst, a UCC minister in Michigan:
