Advent 3 - Joy
December 12, 2021, at 9:30 am

Online Worship Logistics:

  • The online doors to our Zoom worship will open at 9:00am. From 9am to 9:30am, the worship space will be open for folks to gather and get settled in. Our worship service will begin at 9:30am. Full details on how to join our online worship are found here.

  • Consider placing your Advent Wreath in your sacred Zoom worship space so that we can share them with one another. We will light the Advent Wreath candles toward the beginning of each worship service in Advent.

  • The key components to any Advent Wreath are four candles, one for each week of the season. We light the first candle on the first Sunday in Advent, the first and second candles on the second Sunday, and so on. As the name “wreath” suggests, some kinds of greens, in the form of a wreath, traditionally surround the candles. Typically, the candles are blue or purple to match the liturgical color of the season - and sometimes the third candle is pink. You choose whichever color of candle suits your mood for this season. Feel free to be creative - follow traditions or start your own. And together, may we await the coming of hope, peace, joy, and love into our hearts and into our word.
Announcements & Updates:
Advent 3: Joy

This Sunday, Pastor David will be joined by members of the Jackson family to talk about finding Joy in our day to day lives.

Christmas Eve Worship 2021

We are excited to announce that we are working together with Hillsboro United Methodist Church and Las Naciones Iglesia Metodista to provide Christmas Eve worship opportunities that will meet the needs for folks in our congregations who are eager to worship in person (using common sense COVID protocols) as well as for those who would prefer to worship online.

As we get closer to Christmas Eve, we encourage you to start thinking about how and when you would like to attend. While we are still working out some details, it is looking like the schedule will be as follows:

4pm Online (Zoom) Family-Friendly Worship

6pm In person Worship for the Whole Family of God

@ Hillsboro United Methodist Church (HUMC)

8pm In person Candlelight Worship

@ HUMC, Live Streamed and “on demand” shortly after the service

10pm In person Candlelight Worship with Holy Communion

@ HUMC

By next week we will have instructions for how to reserve a place for yourself or your family for one of the in person worship opportunities.

In person Worship address:

Hillsboro United Methodist Church

168 NE 8th Ave, Hillsboro, OR 97124

There may be an opportunity to be part of a choir - either live or pre-recorded - for one of the Candlelight Services (8pm or 10pm). If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact Pastor David and he will put you in touch with the HUMC choir director for details.

Thank you and stay tuned!

Special Collection Update
During the Thanksgiving season ChristChurch invited you to contribute to sponsor a family via The Molly Thompson Memorial Fund

The ChristChurch November 2021 goal was $500 to sponsor a family of 4+ people for Christmas. We surpassed our goal! Thanks to your generosity we raised $775!

The CC monies will go to support a family of seven from Salem, in hardship this season, whose child is ill at Randal Children's Hospital.  This family will receive food, a decorated tree, Christmas gifts for each person from their wish list, and a family gift card for necessities.  Our monies will be used with three other individual donations to provide this family with a wonderful Christmas.

Thank you all so much!

Letter from Church Council President

Greetings ChristChurch,

Our community came together in a big way for Molly’s Fund.  Let’s keep the spirit of giving going! Here are some other opportunities to help those in need this holiday season.

Support Greater Good NW

Greater Good NW seeks to house and support historically and presently underserved communities, focusing on BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and formerly incarcerated individuals. Their current program is a transitional housing program operating in Hillsboro where participants have their own hotel room and Greater Good NW provides onsite case management and behavioral health support, 24/7 staffing, three meals a day, free laundry, etc.

The socks we will collect at our flash mob caroling event (on December 19 at 1pm) will be donated to Greater Good NW.

This organization has some additional needs. Financial donations are gladly accepted, and it would be 100% for programmatic needs. Donations go towards financial assistance to get an ID and housing application fees.

Want to collect items for participants? This is what is needed the most:

  • cleaning supplies for participants to clean their rooms
  • toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • laundry pods (including hypoallergenic)
  • handwarmers
  • ponchos
  • body wash
  • lotion
  • shampoo & conditioner

Emma Jackson and Jane Jackson will be the contacts for this. Reach out to them via email.

Maybe you want to donate a toy or two?

Older kids, in particular, are in need of age appropriate donations as they are often forgotten. Here are a couple of fun ways to donate toys, and you get a coffee in return.  A win-win in my book.

  • Elliot & Murrey Coffee Roasters are teaming up with KGW8 Great Toy Drive to collect new, unwrapped toys.  2038 NE Alocleck Drive, Suite 219, Hillsboro.  A free 12-oz coffee as a thank for your donation.  M-F, 8-2, Sat/Sun, 10-2.
  • Black Rock – all locations – a new, unwrapped, in original packaging, toy by December 13th – get a 160z drink for free.
  • I love Christmas lights and being able to also help a toy drive sounds perfect!  NE Aurora Drive in Hillsboro. You will know which house. 😊There is a QR code that allows you to buy from an Amazon wish list, or you can leave new, unwrapped toys on the porch. Donations are for the 9th Annual Toy Drive for Randall Children’s Hospital.

Hope these ideas inspire you to give! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
