Winter Needs Collection Wrap Up
pastordavid@comchristchurch.org

This year ChristChurch joined Spherd of the Valley in conducting a joint Winter Needs fundraiser project;  together we raised funds and donated clothing items for several locally-based non-profits.

According to updated records, SOV and ChristChurch combined will have donated over $2,900 in new items/funds in addition to clothing valued at several hundred dollars. We donated to Beaverton's UGM Women and their Children, Greater Good NW in Hillsboro, and HomePlate Youth Services, by providing them with items they specifically identified.

Their needs varied but included items such as ponchos, heavy-duty paper plates, shampoo,  body lotion,  toothpaste, toothbrushes, laundry detergent, hand warmers, napkins, various individually wrapped snacks, and new and gently used clothing items.

In several cases, the agencies requested funds to aid them with their mission tasks, for example, HomePlate uses the money to provide bus cards for transportation, and GreaterGood NW uses funds to help pay fees for various applications for their clients. The items to the left are purchased items headed to UGM Women and their Children and Greater Good NW.

We are so blessed to have families that are able and willing to donate to this and our other outreach efforts. Thank you to them and to you all for helping.

Midweek Lenten Services 2022

Throughout Lent, Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church and our church have the opportunity to worship together every Wednesday evening at 6:30pm, in person at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, and online via YouTube Streaming.

Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church

17625 NW Cornell Rd, Beaverton, OR 97006

These are quiet, contemplative worship services designed to assist us all in our Lenten walk with Jesus toward the cross.

We continue to follow the COVID protocols created for us by our Worship Transition Team, with one exception: Because we will are bringing two faith communities together for these midweek services, we will also be asking participants to show proof of vaccination to attend worship in person.

Cluster Dinner Zoom gatherings

Sunday, March 27 from 4:30-6:30 pm.

Everyone is invited to join this evening of cluster conversations! Together we will continue to uncover Oregon Synod land stories, moving toward a new horizon of more whole truth-telling and steps toward repair!

  • Who inhabited this land before European Americans did?
  • What is the hidden history lying right beneath our feet?

Gather with folks from other churches in your cluster to hear how Peace First in Astoria is uncovering stories of their land and get updates from the synod office land story.

Where were you born and raised?

I was raised in Omaha and met my husband, Larry, there in fourth grade. We will celebrate our 57th anniversary in June.

Who is in your family?

We have two daughters and four granddaughters. One set live in Puyallup and the second in Boise.

Favorite activities?

Two book groups, gardening, piano, cooking, embroidery, and helping others.

How did you find ChristChurch?

I was invited to Christ Church by a co-preschool teacher to attend Alpha, an outreach program led by Fran Hodges. Later, Larry and I were impressed with the church’s international outreach to share the Gospel in Romania and Mexico. Closer to home, we were welcomed into home Bible study groups with hosts Lois and Bob Bizieff. Presently, I enjoy attending a small group led by Chris Moore and attend the in-person mid-week Lenten services hosted by Shepherd of the Valley. I am happy to be part of the Baby Care Kit team for Lutheran World Relief and look forward to our assembling project in October.

What are you looking forward to in 2022?

After two years of pandemic restrictions, we hope to make a driving trip to Omaha for reunions with family and friends.

Which Bible verse(s) speaks to you right now?

Two sets of verses guide my life:

Proverbs 3:5-6. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.

Ephesians 2:8-10. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, in which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Pray for Ukraine

We are in the midst of another humanitarian crisis; this one caused by Russian aggression on Ukrainian soil. Hundreds of civilians have been killed or injured and millions are fleeing to neighboring countries for refuge. Our Ukrainian neighbors are suffering, and they need our help. We will continue to hold the people of Ukraine in our prayers.

Additionally, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of the men, women, and children of Ukraine by donating to relief organizations such as these:
