LENT 2021: Brave Space Conversations – The Fifth Sunday in Lent
The fifth conversation in our Lenten Series: Brave Space Conversations will be with Gracie Garcia (she, her) during worship on Sunday, March 21st.
Gracie serves as the Community Services Director for Bienestar Oregon. Bienestar’s mission is to build housing, hope, and community for the wellbeing of Latinxs, immigrants, and all families in need in Washington County.
In addition to working for Bienestar, Gracie also works for Community Counseling Solutions in a program called Oregon Seniors Peer Outreach where she connects with Hispanic seniors as well as those with disabilities. This program provides weekly phone calls to support folks who are experiencing loneliness, depression or just need someone to talk to.
We will talk about seeing and being seen and the ways we sometimes do not fully see our neighbors? |

April 2021 TEXTtalks Bible Conversation:
Thursday, March 25th, 7-8:30pm
Are you interested in getting a head start on engaging with the scripture texts that form the basis for preaching each Sunday morning in worship?
Join us on Thursday, March 25th, at 7pm, for the next edition of TEXTtalks… a monthly conversation on the texts we hear in worship. Join me and others as we read through the upcoming Bible stories and ask ourselves… what do we notice? what do we wonder about?
In this upcoming session, we will discuss the following stories for the month of April.
These include texts from the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts:
Luke 24:1-12
An Empty Tomb
April 4 (Palm Sunday)
Luke 16:13-35
The Road to Emmaus
April 11
Acts 6:1-7:2a, 44-60
The Stoning of Stephen
April 18
Acts 8:26-39
Philip & the Ethiopian Eunuch
April 25
I look forward to this opportunity to engage with God’s word in community.
I invite you to read these texts ahead of time and come ready to join the discussion.

Special Congregational Meeting Recap |
|
|
Thank you to everyone that attended the special congregational meeting on Sunday, March 14, 2021. The first order of business at the meeting was a motion to approve voting members for 2021 Oregon Synod Annual Assembly. The motion passed; Mark and Inga Henderson will attend the 2021 Oregon Synod Annual Assembly as voting members.
The second order of business was an update from the Reconciling in Christ (RIC) team. Tracy Litterer spoke on behalf of the RIC team and shared the rationale behind their decision to postpone the vote until the Annual Meeting in June 2021. She cited new feedback from ReconcilingWorks regarding the proposed Welcome Statement and let the congregation know that the team will use the time between this meeting and the Annual Congregational meeting in June to educate the congregation on the changes and their significance.
Join the RIC team after worship this Sunday (3/21/21) for educational opportunities.
Full minutes from this meeting will be available on our website next week.
Save the date for our annual meeting: Sunday, June 6th, 2021 after worship. |

(palmless) Palm Sunday - March 28, 2021
This will be the second Palm Sunday in which we cannot participate in the traditional palm procession.
Fortunately, Luke has given us an out: Did you know that Luke doesn’t even mention palm branches (or leafy branches of any kind) in his telling of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem? That’s right, according to Luke, people in the crowd “spread their cloaks on the roadway as Jesus rode along.”
I am fairly certain that we all have coats and jackets we can easily put our hands-on during this cold and rainy season. So, you can fully expect to be asked to find a coat or two to lay down before Jesus as we worship together on this (palmless) Palm Sunday.
