Virtual Sunday Worship at 9:30am

Love in the Time of COVID

Beloveds,

When we began reading Weird Church a year and a half ago, little did we know just how weird it could get! We are living in weird times and as a community we are doing our best to respond in appropriately weird ways. So, beginning this Sunday, March 22nd, we are trading physical space for online Zoom space. Zoom is an online meeting platform that lends itself well to gathering a small faith community like ours together online for worship.

To prepare for this, we have had a team of folks this past week doing their best to connect with you all to see how you are doing and to help you think through what you might need in the way of technology to be ready for Sunday morning. This will be a new experience for ALL of us. This will be a season of experimentation, of trying new things, of learning as we go… together.

You might be a friend or member of ChristChurch who is receiving this invitation through our Faith News e-mail newsletter; or you may be someone who learned about this from a friend or colleague or family member; perhaps you found about this on Facebook or another social media platform. No matter how you are hearing about us, you are invited to our very first Online Worship Service on Sunday, March 22nd.  The virtual doors to our Zoom worship will open at 9:00am.

To enter using your computer, please click on this link… https://zoom.us/j/397068541

Please consider copying the link above and pasting it into a sticky note or other comparable application on your internet device, so you can easily access it come Sunday morning.

If you are not able to join worship via your personal computer, you are welcome to join using your phone. Simply call this number… (253) 215 8782, follow the  prompt to enter the Meeting ID: 397 068 541, and you will find yourself in our Zoom worship space.

From 9am to 9:30am, the worship space will be open for folks to gather and get settled in. Our worship service will begin at 9:30am.

Holy communion will be a part of our online worship, so we encourage everyone to prepare by putting together your own communion set from whatever you have handy in your kitchens and pantries.

Be creative!

For instance, the cup could be wine, juice, water, etc.

The bread could be actual bread, a cracker, a tortilla, tortilla chip, etc.

Please have these items nearby and handy when you join us online.

In this time of social distancing and isolation, it is vitally important for our physical, mental and spiritual well being that we continue to find ways to stay connected. We hope that this online worship can be just one of the ways we stay connected as Community of ChristChurch. I look forward to seeing you in worship this Sunday!

God’s peace,

Pastor David

Programming updates:

The Faithful Quilters will hold their Saturday, March 28th, 10am meeting at Violet Thetford's home. This gathering is under 10 people. It will also be contact free (no hugs, shaking hands, etc). If you would like to attend please email Violet.

For now, Prayer Shawl Ministry will also meet at Violet's home on Saturday, April 11 at 10am.

For both Prayer Shawl Ministry and Faithful Quilters small gatherings we will have a special video Zoom call link available. Details for that will be in the 3.26 Faith News. Violet is up and running with Zoom.  This way everyone can join in with group discussions on all manner of topics. It’s a great way to stay in touch with some of your church family, from the safety of your own home.

Baby Blanket Workshop

Due to the social distancing requirement that we are now living under it is necessary for us to cancel the baby blanket making workshop.  However, we still need to make those baby kits for families in need, so we are gathering names of people who would be willing to do some sewing for others in this trying time.  If you would like to help please email Violet.  Feel free to ask people in your friends circle that are staying home and looking for projects.

Violet shares this update on the project and how you can help:

I am cutting the fabrics into the correct size and pairing them up. All that is needed are people who can sew a straight line who are willing to accept a stack of prepped materials. Then you simply put right sides together and sew around the perimeter, leaving an opening so you can turn it inside out.  After that you simply sew the opening closed with top stitching all around.

I tend to make rounded corners as those are easier to turn for me.

Also, I thought I had plenty of material, but I don’t. It’ll take over 600 yards of fabric to make all the blankets for 150 baby care kits.  I have a lot of fabric but not that much. So if you have any flannel or cotton, and were willing to donate it, that’d be great.  I simply cut the front and backs at about 36-40” by WOF. ( Width of fabric). Then proceed. I’ve been trying to use 1 piece of flannel and one of cotton.two flannels are even better.

If you have some extra fleece that works too.  It doesn’t have to be doubled,  just cut into about 40*45.  Then if you have a serger, then serge around the edges,  and you are done. Or, if you don’t have a serger, if you can get them to me I can finish them up.  If you have left overs I can also take those pieces and stitch them into one piece.

Please let us know if you are willing to help.  You can ask people in your friends circle that are staying home and looking for projects.
