About Deacon Sue Best
Deacon Sue has a career that includes both serving as the Deacon of Pastoral Visitation at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Beaverton as well as a Palliative Care Social Worker at Salem Hospital. Sue was commissioned as a Deacon in 2016 and has also served as a Pastoral Associate at Augustana Lutheran Church in NE Portland. She has also worked over 30 years in healthcare specializing in oncology and palliative care.
Though Deacon Sue has lived in Portland for many years, she still calls Chicago home as most of her family still lives there. This includes being an avid Chicago Cubs fan for life, which has taught Deacon Sue a lot about patience and hope! As a graduate of the University of Kansas with her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Social Work, Deacon Sue is also a loyal Jayhawk fan.
When not walking the halls of the hospital or serving as a deacon, Sue loves to paddle on the Willamette with the Pink Phoenix Dragon Boat Team, cycle, hike or hang out with her beloved boxer, Alice.
