Introducing the ChristChurch Classifieds webpage
As we continue to navigate our uncertain world, one thing that is clear - our community connection is vital. Christchurch now has another way to nurture community connections...a free online classified page!

The classified page is designed to be a helpful resource for those within the ChristChurch community.

We accept a variety of postings: job opportunities, free items, yard sales, services, looking for house help, etc.

Other examples:

  • If you or a friend/family run a small business this is a great place to post your services.
  • Cleaning out your closets or garage and want to offer those items to your ChristChurch friends?
  • Have a bounty of vegetables or flowers from your garden?
  • Hosting a virtual event and want to invite the greater ChristChurch community?
You can read more about the page and post an ad by visiting this webpage.

A final note, this page is a work in progress and an experiment. Please contact me if you have any suggestions. The next month will be a soft launch, allowing me to work out any tech or content issues. But please share it with friends and family! We need people to submit to know how well the page is working.

Thank you!

Q and A about Sacred Circle
by Violet Thetford

What is Sacred Circle?

Sacred Circle is a Community Action and Community Service network of interfaith people who are committed to following the words of Jesus.

For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat,

I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,

I was a stranger and you invited me in,

I needed clothes and you clothed me,

I was in jail and you visited me.

Matthew 25: 31-40

What does Sacred Circle do?

We research articles, legislative bills, commentary, and news reports on current events to identify those areas where we might testify, write letters, make phone calls, and other actions that may lead to social justice for all people.

Is it limited to human social action?

No. We may find ourselves involved with climate change, wildlife preservation, and other activities that will preserve and protect all that the Lord has given to us.

Who or what exactly are you focused on currently?

We are involved in a number of activities based upon individual passions. We are currently supporting three sock drives. One is for the Lifeline addiction Center (which we have talked about in Worship and Faith News), one is for the homeless in Washington County and one is in partnership with the Westside Queer Resource Center (WQRC) in collecting socks for homeless youth.

In addition, we are gearing up to collect cold-weather gear for the coming winter: sweaters, hats, gloves, scarves, jackets, coats, sweatshirts, etc. We also researching ways to provide meals to the homeless in our area on a regular basis.

At the moment, many of us are heavily involved in the election; writing texts, letters, phone calls to get out the vote. Some are doing it from a neutral standpoint, others are more focused on individual candidates. Whatever they are more comfortable with.

We are monitoring the Black Lives Matter movement for opportunities to share the words of our Lord. We offer aid and comfort to immigrants and refugees, and the LBQTIA+ community.

We use these words to guide us:

Defend the weak and fatherless. Uphold the cause of the oppressed
From Psalm 82:3

Can someone be involved in some areas but not others?

Absolutely! You work on those areas that are of greatest concern to you, whether that’s one area or ten.

When do you meet?

We meet on Zoom on the first Monday of the month from 7-8:00 PM.

As we have learned over these last months, Oregon does and will continue to experience disasters and times of emergency.  As people of faith, we are called to be ready to provide comfort and assistance to those in need.  How do we get ready?  By having a response plan in place….by starting NOW to learn what we as local congregations can do to help—including creative ideas for responding in this time of COVID.

The OR Synod Disaster Preparedness & Response Network will offer regular gatherings, resources, trainings, and team development activities to help you form a team and engage your congregation. Please join us as we begin the preparedness journey together!

It’s no secret we are living in unprecedented and divided times. Racial unrest, political tensions and COVID-19 have impacted nearly every aspect of our lives. What do shalom and unity look like in 2020? Shalom is a Hebrew word that means wholeness, harmony and peace. It’s a complex idea, often oversimplified, similar to the way “unity” becomes a euphemism for sameness.

The 2020 Collins Summit "Shalom in Divided Times: Can we create a just peace and real unity?" will explore these racial, political and social divisions, asking how we bring our whole selves to the table and stay engaged in  light of our differences, not in  spite of them.

Presented by Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon in a virtual format, the Collins Summit will include a lecture from Lisa Sharon Harper, a live Q&A, and the opportunity to hear from members of the Common Table and their important work.

Watch on your computer, phone, tablet or smart TV on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Registration fee is $10 (scholarships available). Learn more and register @ https://emoregon.org/event/2020-collins/.
