Announcements & Updates:
Draft Mission and Vision for your review & feedback

Over the past few months, congregation members have been working on an updated Mission and Vision statement for ChristChurch.

We would like to have your comments on a draft of the Community of ChristChurch Mission & Vision Statement.

Please give your feedback by Tuesday, November 9, 2021.

Our Mission:
Love God, Love People, Love Creation, Live like Jesus.

Vision:
We are a Welcoming Christian community. We are committed to Christ’s mission to love and serve our neighbor and eager to learn about Jesus together.

Welcome:
We are inclusive. We advocate for people of all gender identities, sexual orientation, and gender expressions. We join with all to combat racism. We believe all are created equal, and we strive for gender and racial equity.

Learn:
To live according to the teachings of Jesus Christ we seek to learn more about God, God’s will for us individually and collectively, and our role as stewards of creation.

Engage:
We encourage our members and community partners to apply all their gifts and passions to help the poor, the vulnerable and the marginalized.

Love and Serve:
Serving in love is our Christian response. We believe all are called and equipped by God for a variety of missions. We serve as a community, and we serve as individuals. Our goal is to reach out as wide and far as possible in order to accompany those in need.

If you have any questions or trouble completing the survey, please contact Rachael Jans. Thank you for your participation.
Baby Care Kits 2021
Thanks to everyone that donated and help assemble the Baby Care Kits for Lutheran World Relief. Our goal was 150 kits, and we had 151! So excited to get these kits to families in need.

During the Thanksgiving season, ChristChurch invites you to contribute to sponsoring a family via The Molly Thompson Memorial Fund.

The Molly Thompson Memorial Fund sponsors families with a seriously ill child that is experiencing severe financial hardship. Donations will go towards a tree, presents, food, and a gift card to cover necessities.

ChristChurch November 2021 goal: $500

$500 will sponsor a family of 4+ people for Christmas.

Go here for full details and how to donate.

We will provide a mid-month update on how close we are to our $500 goal. Thank you!

Get to know a Church Council Member:
Our October Council member feature is Tracy Litterer.
Where were you born and raised?  I was born in Cleveland and raised in Elyria, Ohio. I feel like I was also partially raised in Upstate New York as I spent my childhood summers there with family and other relatives. Tom and I and our 2 kids moved to Oregon from AZ in 1996 for Tom's job.

Who is in your family?  Tom and I were married in 1989 and moved to AZ, where both our kids were born. Tom works at Portland State University where he also recently earned his MBA. Our daughter, Emily (28) lives in Seattle and loves working at L'Arche in Tacoma. Our son, Jake (26) lives in Boston, MA, and expects to earn his PhD this coming Spring from Tufts University. We are so fortunate that Marilyn, Tom's mom, lives so close by.

What is your occupation or favorite hobby?  I was a medical social worker a lifetime ago (Jake's lifetime actually!). A new favorite hobby since the Pandemic has been watercolor painting. The online tutorials make it so accessible and fun!

How did you find Community of Christ Church?  Jake's preschool teacher/director at Prince of Peace Preschool and Pre K, along with another family who had a child at the same school told us about CCC and we loved it from the first time we attended.
The pandemic has been tough for all of us and tragic for some, are there any silver linings from the pandemic you'd like to share?  Being able to have Jake home with us for 8 months during the pandemic was the best silver lining for me! Learning new ways to connect with family and friends with Zoom and other ways online has been good too. I never thought to try to do yoga with my sister in FL or paint with my sister in CA until the Pandemic. Zoom church has continued to be a silver lining as well!

What are you looking forward to?  We have already started a little, but I look forward to traveling safely again. On a day-to-day level, I look forward to being able to attend church in person someday and get together with friends and neighbors without worry.

Bible verses that speak to you right now?
I remember Suze mentioned Matthew 7:12 (the Golden Rule) last month and that has definitely come up often for me too. Another that I have found meaningful during the Pandemic and a long time before that is from Romans 15:13 " May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
