Announcements & Updates:

Dear Members and Friends of Community of ChristChurch,

Rhonda and I want to thank you so much for the wonderful celebration of our ten years together last weekend. The combination of cards and well wishes, the parade on Saturday, and the worship service and party on Sunday morning have made us feel so loved and appreciated by all of you. We want you to know how much we love and appreciate all of you as well - not just for the weekend festivities (which we are still talking and smiling about) - but especially for this ten-year journey we have been traveling together. Together, as a faith community, you have experienced so much change over these last ten years, and you have faced these changes with resilience, faithfulness, compassion, and grace. Through it all we have felt the presence of God’s Holy Spirit in our midst. You are all an inspiration to us both and we look forward to what the Spirit has in store for us now and into the future!

Peace, Love and Understanding,

Pastor David and Rhonda

Blessing of the Animals

Let’s be honest, during these last 18 months, those of us with animals in our households have already been bringing our pets into our worship space. So let’s really invite them in -  to give thanks for them, to acknowledge the gift they are to us, and to bless them! On Sunday, October 3rd, during our 9:30am worship time, we will be celebrating the Feast of St. Francis by blessing our pets and beloved creatures! We invite you to share your beloved animals with the whole worshiping community in two ways…

First, consider sending in a picture… it could be a faithful companion of many years, it could be a pandemic puppy or COVID kitty, it could be the birds or other creatures that you have been sharing your outdoor space with. Please attach your photos to an email and send them to pastordavid@comchristchurch.org by Thursday, September 30th.

Second, if possible, have your furry (or scaly, or feathered) family member with you in your sacred Zoom worship space. Together we will give thanks for and bless all God’s creatures!

Do you have an October
Birthday or Anniversary?

Submit your birthday (just the month), your anniversary, any other special dates you want to be shared with our community to Admin@comchristchurch.org or update your profile in our online church directory.

Baby Care Kits

Baby Care kits are shipped to countries where women in poverty bring babies into a world with little or nothing to care for them. These kits will contain basics like blankets for warmth and soap to keep baby clean.

Throughout the pandemic, ChristChurch volunteers have continued to collect items to make Baby Care Kits to donate to Lutheran World Relief. Our goal is 150 kits.

Volunteers are looking for the following items:
  • Bars of soap (300 needed, preferably unscented)
  • Cloth diapers (500 needed)
Further details on the end of October InGathering and logistics for assembling the kits will be available soon. For now, we ask you to collect those items and await further instructions.

What's an InGathering?
InGathering is a local gathering of groups that make and collect kits to help areas in need worldwide. Find out more here.

New Feature in Faith News:

Get to know a Church Council Member.

Suze Engbretson, Church Council President

Where were you born and raised? Born and raised in Bozeman, Montana. Came to Oregon in  1986 to attend Lewis and Clark College

Who is in your family? Husband of 31 years, Michael.  Daughter Lena (24) and son Owen (19). Owen is in College at Carnegie Mellon University.  Lena lives in Brooklyn, NY, and works for Prudential Financial.  Michael is a Product Marketing Manager at Teledyne Lecroix.

What is your occupation or favorite hobby?  I have worked at NIKE for 31 years in Global Sports Marketing.  My favorite way to spend my time is reading and traveling.

How did you find ChristChurch? Sallie and Duane Bullock introduced us to the church around 13 years ago.

The pandemic has been tough for all of us and tragic for some, are there any silver linings from the pandemic you'd like to share?

Getting to spend extra time with my kids at home, which was very unexpected.  I have also enjoyed getting to listen to speakers, concerts, events that I would not have been able to go to in-person due to distance and cost but was able to enjoy on Zoom. Connecting with extended family on Zoom allowed us to celebrate milestone events.

What are you looking forward to? Getting back to working in the office, going to church in person, gatherings, and travel.

Bible verse that speaks to you right now? I have always found solace in the Serenity Prayer, which is not really found in scripture but speaks to me always.  I have always tried to emulate Matthew 7:12 – the Golden Rule.  In the current climate, I wish we were all following this more and acting accordingly.

Want to get more involved with ChristChurch?

Your church council has taken the summer months to review priorities for the church. We identified that nurturing a diverse team of volunteers is a healthy way for ChristChurch to flourish (and hopefully grow) our church community.

Volunteering is a great way to get plugged into your church, feel like part of a community, and serve Jesus at the same time. As Pastor preached on during our summer worship series, God has uniquely equipped every person in the Church with specific skills and gifts.

If you've been wanting to get more involved in your church now is a great time! We have identified 11 teams that currently operate at ChristChurch.
