Are you interested in getting a head start on engaging with the scripture texts that form the basis for preaching each Sunday morning in worship?

Announcing TEXTtalks… a monthly conversation on the texts we hear in worship. Join me and others as we read through the upcoming Bible stories and ask ourselves… what do we notice? what do we wonder about?

The conversation begins on Wednesday, September 30th from 7 to 8:30pm.

Upcoming Book Discussion:

“The Time Is Now: A Call to Uncommon Courage”
by Sr. Joan Chittister

“As always, Joan has put her finger and her pen

to the right and needed words.”

—Richard Rohr, O.F.M., founder of the Center for Action

and Contemplation and author of Falling Upward

“Joan Chittister is a legend…she invites you to cling to Jesus,

dive into the world’s pain, and do something daring

and beautiful with your life.”

—Shane Claiborne, co-founder of The Simple Way

and author of Common Prayer

Following up on the success of our book discussions of “So You Want to Talk About Race” by Ijeoma Oluo, we invite you to participate in a new round of book discussions, reading Sr. Joan Chittister’s book, “The Time Is Now: A Call to Uncommon Courage.”

The plan is to meet four times, every two weeks, beginning the second full week in October (week beginning 10/12). We will meet online using Zoom. We have a few discussion facilitators waiting on deck to accommodate more than one group with a variety of possible days and times.

Are you interested? If so, simply email me, Pastor David, by Thursday, October 1st, indicating you would like to participate. After October 1st, I will reach out to those who responded, and together we will schedule the first session(s).

As we have learned over these last months, Oregon does and will continue to experience disasters and times of emergency.  As people of faith we are called to be ready to provide comfort and assistance to those in need.  How do we get ready?  By having a response plan in place….by starting NOW to learn what we as local congregations can do to help—including creative ideas for responding in this time of COVID.

The OR Synod Disaster Preparedness & Response Network will offer regular gatherings, resources, trainings, and team development activities to help you form a team and engage your congregation. Please join us as we begin the preparedness journey together!

REVEALING RELATIONSHIPS:  CLIMATE CHANGE AND DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
SEPTEMBER 26, 2020

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

Wildfires are more common and more severe in Alaska, Montana and the Pacific Northwest then they used to be. One reason is Climate Change.

Loss of sea ice, melting permafrost, and sea level changes are already requiring Indigenous Alaskan communities to relocate. The cause is Climate Change.

February 2020 flooding in Umatilla, OR and Walla Walla, WA counties was the most severe on record, and the frequency is increasing. Why?

Join a stellar panel of experts and advocates to discuss the intersections of Climate Change and Disaster Preparedness as it is experienced today, right here in our part of the world

 REVEALING RELATIONSHIPSRACISM AND DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2020

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

Why are Communities of Color disproportionately affected by the coronavirus? How does our society treat a largely Black and migrant labor force of service and agricultural workers? When disaster strikes, who is served, and who isn’t? Are racism and disaster response interrelated? If so, what can we do about it?

Prayers
For all who are facing danger and all engaged in fighting fires or providing aid.

For every family who has experienced an untimely death of a loved one, to COVID, fires, systemic violence, domestic violence or anything else.

If you have a prayer you would like the community to pray on please email Pastor David.
