Faith News Update for August 22nd, 2019

August 25th, 2019

9:30am Sunday Worship
with Holy Communion

The Pointless People
Obey the Great Commission

Matthew 28:16-20

Logistics for the potluck picnic:

After the celebration of Holy Communion together, we will continue to break bread together with a potluck picnic. We have reserved all three pavilions and will provide grilled hotdogs, hamburgers and veggie burgers. Bring a drink and/or side dish to share. Please label your potluck dishes, and help us be "green" by bringing your own reusable tableware/utensils and water bottles. We will have a limited amount of disposables available.

Seating:

We encourage folks to bring a lawn/folding chair for service. Limited seating will be available in the pavilions for the potluck picnic.

Offering:

The offering taken during worship at the park will be a special offering to support Family Promise of Washington County. You may make your regular weekly offering online or bring it to church on Sunday, September 8th.

Parking:
To ensure enough parking for all, we encourage you to ride your bike, ride share, or walk if you can - and leave the closest parking spots for those with mobility issues. Watch for the Hillsboro United Methodist shuttle bus if you park in surrounding neighborhoods. The park is accessible and there are public restrooms nearby.

RSVP:
Lastly, you can help us plan for the number of grill foods we should purchase by RSVP’ing to the Facebook event if you plan to attend.

We are featuring a frequently asked question about Reconciling in Christ each week in Faith News and the bulletin. Reconciling in Christ is a program for Lutheran congregations who want to publicly welcome people of all sexual orientations, gender identity, and gender expression into their communities.

Q: If we become Reconciling in Christ, does that mean that we support everything that ReconcilingWorks says and does?

A: The RIC Program simply keeps a roster of Lutheran communities that proclaim a specific welcome for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities so they are more easily found by those looking for such a welcome. That’s all that’s indicated by being listed on the RIC roster. As partners in ministry, welcoming communities often find that their goals and values frequently align with the goals and values of ReconcilingWorks.

The next Reconciling in Christ team meeting and potluck is
Thursday, September 12th at 6 pm.
