Faith News Update for August 31, 2017

September 3rd, 2017

9:30am Sunday Worship with

Holy Communion

INTO the DESERT

This Sunday concludes our summer journey into the desert. We hope you have found this focus on the sayings of the desert Abbas and Ammas each Sunday to be a meaningful worship experience.

Silence

Dear Friends,

The people of Houston, New Orleans, and the surrounding communities have been on our hearts and minds while they have endured and continue to endure one of the worst storms in recent history. They need our prayers and our help. The best way we can help right now is to send money that will help the organizations that are already responding to the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. One of those organizations is Lutheran Disaster Response.

Lutheran Disaster Response’s affiliate is actively present, collaborating with community leaders and officials to initiate the proper responses, particularly the long-term recovery efforts. Together, they have a strong history of working with disasters in the Gulf Coast area. Recovery efforts are expected to take years, and Lutheran Disaster Response will be there to accompany those affected through every phase of this disaster.

Let’s stand by our neighbors on the Gulf Coast during this time. Our gifts ensure that our church will be able to provide help and hope for those left homeless or otherwise affected by this disaster for years to come.

Gifts to Lutheran Disaster Response, designated for "Hurricane Response – United States" will be used entirely (100 percent) for this disaster until the response is complete. Together, we can help provide immediate and long-lasting support. Give today to support the needs in this response and others like it.

Our new season of Movies that Matter kicks off on Friday, September 15th!

What you’ll need to participate…

Be at least 17 years old, bring a potluck dish to share and a love of movies!

Here's some hints about the movie:

- Best Picture Nominee for 2017 Academy Awards

- Rotten Tomatoes says: In heartwarming, crowd-pleasing fashion, (this movie) celebrates overlooked -- and crucial -- contributions from a pivotal moment in American history.

Update on the Annual ChristChurch

Backpack Drive

Thanks for your support in getting the word out about the backpack drive! We are going to have 20 filled backpacks when all is said and done. Ten backpacks are going to Family Promise. The final 10 backpacks will be delivered to Hillsboro school district office. A special thank you to Rhonda Eppelsheimer for coordinating the drive!

Congregational Vitality Survey during

Worship AGAIN this Sunday

You may recall two years ago when we first took the Congregational Vitality Survey. This survey was helpful in giving us a snapshot of how we were doing as a congregation and how we viewed ourselves with regard to spirituality and engagement. Taking the survey every couple of years or so is recommended as a way to measure changes in the life of a congregation.

We took the survey last Sunday and it will be available again this Sunday if you missed service last week. Copies are also available for pick up from the office.

Getting the best and most accurate information depends on having as many of you as possible fill this out, so please be on the lookout for when this survey is available and make sure you take part.

God’s peace,

Pastor David
