Faith News Update for October 11th, 2018

October 14th, 2018

9:30am Sunday Worship
with
Holy Communion

Old Testament Reading:
Joshua 24:1-8, 13-26

Gospel Reading:
Matthew 4:8-10

Note from the pastor: The text we will be looking at this Sunday during our Collaborative Worship session is the familiar story of King David and Bathsheba. I say familiar and yet, in this present moment, when we are deep into a national conversation about gender and power, it feels particularly fresh and relevant. I have so many questions about this text and I imagine many of you do as well. I recognize that I am a white male person of privilege and my perspective comes with limitations and blind spots, especially when it comes to stories dealing with the imbalance of power. So, I am asking for your help. Please consider joining me and others after worship to weigh in on this story and what it has to say to all of us in this time and place. If you have time, I encourage you to read chapters 11 and 12 of 2 Samuel prior to our Collaborative Worship conversation.
Thank you, Pastor David.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Volunteer with SMART
SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) is looking for volunteers to
read to K-3 kids at McKinley Elementary this school year.

Here
is a short video introducing them to the program. At the
end of the video, there is a volunteer application for SMART.  SMART has a goal of reading to at least 80 kids this school year.
