Dear Friends,

I am writing to let you know that Rhonda and I will be out of the country beginning Monday, October 16th. We will be in Mexico City and Cuernavaca. I have a weekend retreat to attend and we are going a few days early to experience central Mexico.

For the last three months, I have had the good fortune of participating in a colleague group consisting of faith leaders in the Oregon Synod as well as faith leaders in Latin America.We have shared written reflections with each other and have also met three times via video chat. It has been a wonderful time of sharing stories and of discovering the common threads that run through our lives and our work despite our very different contexts and experiences. We now have the amazing opportunity to meet face to face for a weekend retreat at a monastery south of Mexico City.

While I am gone the Reverend Julie H. Smith, a chaplain for Tuality Hospital, will preach and lead worship on Sunday, October 22nd. Pastor Matthew Eagan of Calvary Lutheran will be available to respond to any pastoral emergencies that may come up while I am gone. I ask for your prayers while we are away and look forward to sharing stories of our time when we return. I will back in the office on Wednesday, October 25th.

- This 2003 film stars Joseph Fiennes as a 16th Century historical figure
- Rotten Tomatoes says: "Engrossing, as much for its history lesson as for its filmmaking."
- We are showing this film as part of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation celebration
