October 27th, 2019

9:30 am Sunday Worship
with Holy Communion

Guest preacher:
Rev. Ron Werner

1 Kings 12:1-17, 25-29

 Reformation Sunday Worship

followed by a Community Potluck Brunch

Come join us for worship on Reformation Sunday! We have a special day lined up to celebrate the way God’s Spirit is always encouraging us to re-form and re-shape our lives and practice to best share the Good News in our world.

GUEST PREACHER

Our guest preacher will be Rev. Ron Werner. Ron is a pastor and community organizer in Portland, Oregon, where he gathers people to co-create, make meaning, and act together in the world. He is the co-founder of Youth Collectivist, facilitating the startup and sustainability of neighborhood-based ecumenical youth ministries and Awakening Leadership, an interfaith school of clergy and lay leaders. He is a statewide organizer with the Interfaith Movement for Immigrant Justice, accompanying congregations from diverse faith traditions in the work of Sanctuary.

PRAYERS

If you were around Community of ChristChurch back at our inception when prayers were written on pieces of paper and placed inside the walls as our building was being re-formed from a warehouse into a church, we extend a special invitation to you to join us. During our worship time, we will honor those prayers that have helped to sustain us in our life together up to the present day, even as we begin adding new prayers to our walls – prayers of wonder, possibilities and hope, as we imagine how God will continue to

re-form us into the future.

POTLUCK BRUNCH

We also invite you to bring a dish to share for Potluck Brunch following worship. We encourage you to bring food that reflects something about who you are… an ethnic dish from your heritage, perhaps, or maybe a favorite dish you grew up with or is part of your family tradition.

Saturday, October 26 at 10am. Email Violet for more information.
UPDATE: We are also welcoming children to this event. There will be several jobs for them as we make pillowcases, fleece hats, and mittens, and various other gifts for homeless and foster kids.  So bring your kiddos and grands. It will be wonderful to make a great pile of warm gifts, for the body and the soul.

If you have something else to work on, then bring that as well. Think of it as a fall makers festival.

For the month of November ChristChurch is participating in the Winter Warmth drive by Lifeline Connections:

For Winter Warmth we will be collecting hats, socks, gloves, jackets, and blankets to hand out across our Lifeline Connections community.

We have a sobering unit that is open to the public that allows people to stay for 12 hours in a bed, do laundry and get fed (this unit has a high percentage of transients), men and women’s residential programs (including Pregnant and parenting women’s program), MAT program and outpatient services. Most of our patients are homeless, living in their vehicles or considered low or very low income.

This drive will hopefully allow us to not send anyone away without a jacket, blanket or necessary means to stay warm.

Pick up a flyer in the Commons. Please leave donations in the Commons starting on Sunday, November 3rd.

We plan to collect until Thanksgiving weekend.

We invite your participation!
