Congregational Discernment Update

 

Dear Members and Friends of Community of ChristChurch,

 

Thank you to everyone who participated in our first Community Discernment Gathering, held last Sunday (Jan 28th) after worship. 29 people attended in person and via Zoom. 

 

Pastor Melissa Reed facilitated the meeting and encouraged us to share our grief, our fears and our hearts as they relate to this faith community: 

 

What are we grieving?

What are our fears?

What do our grief and our fears tell us 

about what we hold dear in our hearts?

 

She gave us some homework before we gather again in February: 

 

You are encouraged to reach out two other people in our community for a one to one conversation, asking these same three questions of each other. We invite everyone to participate in this homework assignment, whether or not you were able to attend last Sunday's gathering.

 

And... we invite you to mark your calendars for the

Second Community Discernment Gathering,

which will be held after worship on Sunday, February 25th, at 10am. Like the first gathering, this will be a hybrid event

(Zoom and in person) at Aloha United Methodist Church

(2270 SW 198^th Avenue, Aloha 97003.)

 

The meeting will end at noon and refreshments will be provided. 

 

These gatherings are part of a four-to-six-month discernment season, and we hope that you will prayerfully consider participating, not only in this gathering but in the whole process.

 

We hope you will attend this second gathering in person if you are able. However, if you are not able to do that, please consider using this new ZOOM LINK to participate remotely. Please reach out to a Pastor David or one of our Church Council members if you have any questions. We will continue to keep everyone updated on all the opportunities for participation.

What is Creative Corner?

A once a month opportunity for craft lovers to gather together, work on their projects, share their love of creating, and build relationships with a variety of congregations

 Any other relative, neighbor, or friend of yours that may want to come

 

Purpose?

Build an inclusive community

 

When?

2^nd Saturday of every month, 10am- 1pm

 

Where?

Aloha United Methodist Church Social Hall

 

Please Note:

Drop in anytime during those hours and stay for as long as you want. Some may only come for an hour or two, and that’s fine. Others might come for the whole time and that’s great. Just whatever suits your schedule.  We have a large window of time available so that you can work it into your schedule as it permits.

 

Bring a snack lunch and whatever craft you enjoy, ie: knitting, crocheting, quilting, embroidery, drawing, needlepoint, embroidery, appliqué, etc. Bring items for show and tell, ideas for future classes... or, just bring yourself and join in the conversation with old and new friends.

 

COVID 19 Safety Update:

As we move toward holding more worship services and events in person, we are also moving into the cold and flu season. We want to be mindful of our health and well-being as individuals and as a community. This means that we will be keeping close track of the Community Risk Level as it is indicated on the COVID Act Now website for Washington County.

And we will follow these basic guidelines:

Community Risk Level:

LOW Masks are not required;

those who prefer to wear them are encouraged to do so.

MEDIUM Masks are required;

singers and speakers up front can

remove masks when they sing/speak.

HIGH Masks are required for everyone;

we may choose to refrain from in-person worship

and meet via Zoom only.

If the Community Risk Level changes prior to Sunday

in-person worship, we will send out a Special Faith News

Email Bulletin. Please look for that bulletin in your email

inbox on Saturday evening or Sunday morning before you

leave the house, to learn the Community Risk Level and proceed accordingly. As always, if you have a cough, a fever,

or any cold or flu-like symptoms, we ask you to stay home

and join us online.
