Congregational Discernment Update
Dear Members and Friends of Community of ChristChurch,
Most, if not all, of you received a letter last week from me and from our Council President, Suze Engbretson, addressing our current capacity and acknowledging the reality that ChristChurch in its current form is approaching the end of its journey. If you have not yet read the letter, you can read it here.
In keeping with what was shared with you in the letter, your church council, along with some members of the Future Planning Task Force, met with Pastor Melissa Reed on Wednesday, December 13th. Pastor Melissa is on staff with the Oregon Synod of the ELCA (of which Community of ChristChurch is a part) and serves as Bishop’s Associate for Vital Leadership and Sacramental Organizing. Pastor Melissa comes to us with a wealth of expertise and experience in community organizing and in walking with congregations through significant transitions.
Pastor Melissa asked lots of good questions and after reflecting back to us what she heard, proposed that we enter into a four-to-six-month discernment process involving the whole congregation and members of the surrounding community that have been walking with us on this journey. The goal for this process is to faithfully determine how best to transition from our current reality to the new thing that the Holy Spirit is calling us toward.
Our discernment process will begin with our
first Community Gathering, scheduled for
Sunday, January 28th, 2024, following worship.
It is our sincere hope that you will all prayerfully consider taking part in this important process. We will continue to keep everyone updated on all the opportunities for participation.
God’s peace and blessing in this Advent season,
Your Church Council Executive Team:
Suze Engbretson, President
Inga Henderson, Secretary
Rev. David Eppelsheimer, Pastor
