Congregational Discernment Invitation
Dear Members and Friends
of Community of ChristChurch,
This is an invitation.
We are inviting you to join us
for a Community Gathering
that will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024,
following our 9am hybrid worship
at Aloha United Methodist Church
(2270 SW 198th Avenue, Aloha, OR 97003.)
The meeting will go until noon
and refreshments will be provided.
This gathering is the first step of a four-to-six-month discernment season, and we hope that you will prayerfully consider participating, not only in this gathering but in the whole process.
As many of you know, a letter went out to the congregation in early December from Pastor David and from our Council President, Suze Engbretson, addressing our current capacity and acknowledging the reality that ChristChurch in its current form is coming to the end of its journey. If you have not yet read the letter, you can access it here.
We have invited Pastor Melissa Reed to walk with us on this journey and help to facilitate the process. Pastor Melissa is on staff with the Oregon Synod of the ELCA and serves as Bishop’s Associate for Vital Leadership and Sacramental Organizing. She comes to us with a wealth of expertise and experience in community organizing and in walking with congregations through significant transitions.
We haven’t made any decisions yet. The goal for this process is to faithfully determine how best to transition from our current reality to the new thing that the Holy Spirit is calling us toward. To do that well we need to hear from all the voices. We hope you will attend in person if you are able. However, if you are not able to do that, please consider using this ZOOM LINK to participate remotely. Please reach out to a Pastor David or one of our Church Council members if you have any questions. We will continue to keep everyone updated on all the opportunities for participation.
