In this time of discernment and transition it is more important than ever that we elect a leadership board and pass a budget that will make it possible for us to move forward into the future God's Spirit has in store for us.
Your current church council is crafting a six month budget that will carry us forward to the end of the 2024 calendar year. It is our belief that we will have made a decision by then concerning the best pathway for this congregation to take (see the Discernment Gathering article below.)
Do you or someone you know have an interest in becoming a church council member during this crucial time? If so, please CLICK HERE to access a Church Council Nomination form.
And be sure to mark your calendar for Sunday, June 23rd at 10am, to attend our 2024 Annual Congregational Meeting. |

Testimonial from our April 25th
'Rainbow Faith Alliance - On the Road' gathering in Salem:
“Thanks for the Rainbow Faith Alliance event last night.
We count it as a wonderful success: there was deep interest,
some surprise (a terrific storyteller), and honest sharing.
You demonstrated such wonderful RESPECT traits in your
responses to our questions. We're all very glad you made the effort to take Rainbow Faith Alliance on the road and hope
you will soon have more takers.”

You are invited to our
5th Community Discernment Gathering!
WHEN?
Sunday, June 2nd, 10am-Noon
(following worship, refreshments provided)
WHERE?
Aloha United Methodist Church
(2270 SW 198th Avenue, Aloha 97003)
WHO?
Members & friends of Community of ChristChurch,
facilitated by Pastor Melissa Reed
Due to some scheduling conflicts, the church council decided this week to postpone the next (5th) Discernment Gathering (previously scheduled for Sunday, May 19th) to Sunday, June 2nd.
Thank you to all who have been participating in our Discernment Season so far. During our 4th Gathering on April 28th, Pastor Melissa gave us an overview of the three possible pathways for congregations in transition:
Radical Transformation Partnership Holy Closure
She then offered examples of congregations who took each of these paths, and explained the amount of capacity (time, energy, people, resources, etc.) that was needed for each of these congregations to follow these paths faithfully.
Then, Pastor Melissa invited us to discuss these pathways in small groups, share what we imagined each pathway could look like for Community of ChristChurch, write them on sticky notes, then place them on the wall sheets under the corresponding pathway. Finally, she asked us to participate in a straw poll (not a binding vote… a gut check,) ranking each pathway with our first (green dot) and second choices (orange dot.)
For a full transcription of the wall sheets, and the results
of
the straw poll, click anywhere on the wall sheet image below:

Our next gathering will be held on Sunday, June 2nd, after worship.
You can attend in person, or via Zoom at the link below.
We hope to see you there!
If you have any questions, please reach out to an executive team member.
Lastly, during this Discernment Season there will be a few Sunday mornings when ChristChurch will not be holding its regularly scheduled Sunday worship services on Zoom or at Aloha United Methodist Church.
Instead, on these Sunday, you will be encouraged to go as a group to experience worship at other churches that we have named as community partners in ministry.
For instance, on May 26th, you are encouraged to go visit Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church (see the May Worship Schedule above for details.)

With the opening of the Safe Rest Pod Village located on Aloha UMC's land, the AUMC Trading Post is busier than ever.
Volunteers at the Trading Post have let us know that there is a growing need for gently used adult clothing and tennis shoes, new socks, and individually wrapped snack foods.
You can bring these donated items to the church office on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9am to Noon. |

COVID 19 Safety Update:
As we move toward holding more worship services and events in person, we are also moving into the cold and flu season. We want to be mindful of our health and well-being as individuals and as a community. This means that we will be keeping close track of the Community Risk Level as it is indicated on the COVID Act Now website for Washington County.
https://covidactnow.org/us/oregon-or/county/washington_county/?s=47743522
And we will follow these basic guidelines:
Community Risk Level:
LOW Masks are not required;
those who prefer to wear them are encouraged to do so.
MEDIUM Masks are required;
singers and speakers up front can
remove masks when they sing/speak.
HIGH Masks are required for everyone;
we may choose to refrain from in-person worship
and meet via Zoom only.
If the Community Risk Level changes prior to Sunday
in-person worship, we will send out a Special Faith News
Email Bulletin. Please look for that bulletin in your email
inbox on Saturday evening or Sunday morning before you
leave the house, to learn the Community Risk Level and proceed accordingly. As always, if you have a cough, a fever,
or any cold or flu-like symptoms, we ask you to stay home
and join us online.
