* Bring in your box tops by February 25th
Please consider volunteering! We're still looking for one more co-chair to coordinate the Fall Fundraising Campaign. The co-chairs are responsible for soliciting donations from parents as well as coordinating the Parent Parties in the Fall. Please let me know if you are interested.

Have a great week!

PTA NEWS
Corinth Auction

The auction wouldn't be possible without its volunteers. Whether you have a kindergartener, 6th grader or any age of Dragon, please consider helping out! Here are a couple simple ways:

  • Volunteers are needed the day of the auction to transport items from Leawood to Milburn Country Club, set up décor, assist with check-in and check-out, etc.   https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084fa9ab2fa6fb6-2019

  • Make a meal for Meals on Wheels: this live auction item provides dinner to the winner every week during the 2019/20 school year, but we need cooks! Simply pick a date and make two of what you're eating that night - https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084fa9ab2fa6fb6-meals

  • Interested in co-hosting a progressive dinner - a new party being added to the auction this year? We are still looking for five couples to get involved in this super fun event. Contact Betsy Ballard to learn more and sign up to host!

Haven’t purchased your ticket yet? There’s still time! Ticket prices have increased to $60 and can be purchased at www.bidpal.net/corinthauction. Don’t delay - we want to see you on March 2!  While you are on the website, be sure to check out Friends of Corinth. This is a $100 donation that gains you early access to bid on child and parent parties! You’ll be sent an email the Monday before the auction giving you the ability to sign up for parties before they are sold out….and they will sell out!

Look for ALL silent items to be viewable on the auction website later this week!

Parent Education - Save-the-Date
Please join us Tuesday, March 5th for a presentation on mental health awareness for elementary students. The presentation will take place in the Corinth Library at 6:30 pm. Kate Melton, Prevention Coordinator from Johnson County Mental Health will be sharing general information on issues facing elementary age students and how parents can be aware and help their student.
Spring Fling - Save-the-Date

Garden Committee
Now that we are starting to thaw out the Corinth Garden Committee needs volunteers to help spruce up the school's south side garden area. Tasks will include raking leaves, trimming box woods, pulling out old/dead brush around the pond and planting new shrubs and flowers.

Join us Saturday, March 23 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. with a rain-out date of Saturday, April 6. Be sure to bring gloves and any tools you'd like to use (labeled), however, we'll have extras on hand. Contact Melissa Greenstein with any questions. Thanks and we'll see you there!

SMSD Parent Information Night
For the next SMSD parent information night, on March 21 at 6:30 at East Antioch Elementary we will be hosting the Sunflower House as they speak on Keeping Kids Safe Online. This event is intended for adults to learn more about possible dangers of internet usage, practical safety tips & tools and the cybercrimes process.

For more details, view the attached flyer.
Used Book Sale
A big thank you to our Used Book Sale co-chairs Jill Jolicoeur and Katie Glasier along with all of our volunteers that helped throughout the week: Shannon DeSalvo, Carrie Mermis, Megan Wilkens, Debra Rettenmaier, Maria Elena Schlichting, Courtnay Scarborough, Amanda Bruce, Jenny Baker, Monica Simoneau, Becky Croker, Amy Pecaut. Thanks again for your support!!
Winter Box Tops for Education Drive
(Now--February 25th)

It’s time to start turning in Box Tops for Education! This is a super easy way to help the Corinth Community. Simply look for the Box Tops for Education coupon on the products you use, clip it, and put it in a ziploc bag. Send the bag to the Corinth Office with the name of your child, grade and teacher. The class with the highest participation by February 25th wins an extra recess from Mr. Lowe.  Also, all students who bring in any number of Box Tops will be entered for a drawing for a $10 Foo's Gift Card. We will select three winners!

Box Tops is also a great way that grandparents and other family members can support our kids, so be sure to ask others if they can help, too. If you miss turning in your Box Tops by the February 25th deadline, do not worry! We will count any late arrivals toward next year's drive. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Jill Fraley at jillfraley@gmail.com.

Do you know where our PTA funds go?

The Corinth Elementary PTA raises money throughout the year to give our students access to services/programs that they wouldn't normally get through the district. We truly appreciate your donations that help fund the following programs/services throughout the year:

  • Social worker
  • Makerspace/STEM education
  • Math aide
  • Grants for the teachers to buy educational tools for their classrooms
  • Fields trips for every grade level
  • Yearbook for every student
  • PBIS Student Awards
  • Subscriptions to educational magazines for the classrooms
  • Teacher appreciation
  • Garden maintenance
  • And much more!!
Makerspace Update
Our PTA is committed to continuing the growth for our students and teachers in the Makerspace. We have partnered with STEAM Studio ( http://steam-studio.com) and will be providing an on-site experience for each individual classroom at the STEAM Studio in Westport, located in the Gould Evans Architecture Firm. While the students are on site they will be emerged in STEAM activities based on a connection to individual SMSD classroom curriculum and real world application of Design Thinking. The students will be engaged in hands-on, meaningful activities and our teachers will have the opportunity to see it all in action and get ideas for things they can do in their classrooms here at Corinth Elementary! Our PTA will continue to allocate funds to support our teachers and their professional development in this area. Please take a minute to check out the link above and see all the amazing things STEAM Studio is doing for education in our community!!!
