Hello Corinth Families!

LOTS of new information this week. Please read all the way through to see all the new stuff!

Your to-do list for this week:
* Come shop (excellent place to pick up holiday gifts) or send money in with your little ones to the Scholastic Book Fair this week. Don't forget to volunteer for a shift if you can!
* Don't cook on Monday -- enjoy Papa Keno's pizza for restaurant night! Good food and good cause.
* Vote on Tuesday! See Legislative Update below for more information on candidates and voting.
* Turn in your reservation by Thursday November 10 for the Grandparents' lunch on November 22nd.
* No school on Friday - Professional Learning/Teacher Workday.
* Take advantage of the day off for the kids and go to the Skate City Party for Corinth kids from 12-2.
* Come Saturday morning 9-11 to the Garden/Playground Cleanup. We really need a lot of hands to winterize the garden and beautify the school!

Parent & Kid Party Hosts Needed for Auction Parties

We are seeking families to volunteer to host parties that are sold at the auction. The parties are quite profitable and very fun for both parents and kiddos! Parents who host cover the expense to have the party and guests wanting to attend will buy a spot at the March 4th event, making your hosting a donation to the event and the purchase to attend a donation to the school. Three or more families usually host one party, depending on its size.

Please let Stacey Grecian or Jessica Klocke know ASAP if you are willing to host and/or work with a group to come up with a party.

Examples of parent parties:

  • Theme parties {era – 90’s, sports, games, mystery, etc.}
  • Wine tasting
  • Exercise class with a twist
  • Shopping
  • Dessert
  • Progressive dinner
  • High tea
  • Whatever you can think of, ideas are endless!

Kids parties are usually for boys or girls, and by grade {1st grade boys, 3rd grade girls, etc.} and make great last day of school gatherings!

  • Swimming
  • Scavenger hunt
  • Sports clinics
  • Wiffle ball or kickball game
  • Nerf war
  • Relay races
  • American Girl doll crafts
  • Cake decorating
  • Ice cream sundae making
  • Outdoor movie
  • You can be as creative as possible with these fun events!

Finally, Election Day is here! Our PTA is non-partisan, and we do encourage you to vote. If possible, consider bringing your child with you to the polls for a powerful civics lesson!

All hands on deck Saturday! We will have big and small jobs available to clean up the exterior of the school. We are looking to clean up/spruce up the garden, north entrance, and even the entire playground! Bushes need trimming, mulch needs spreading, weeds need pulling! We know our own yards need help too, but just come for an hour or two and help keep our school looking good on:

Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Volunteers should bring tools & leaf bags - if possible. The district will be delivering mulch to spruce up the north entrance

Rainout date is the following day - Sunday, Nov. 13.

We will provide Starbucks!

Any questions, please contact Melissa Greenstein

The Shawnee Mission School District is participating in the We Care, I Can Food Drive for the Johnson County Christmas Bureau. The JCCB provides warmth and sustenance to low income Johnson County, Kansas families during the cold winter holiday season and serves between 12,000 and 14,000 low income neighbors each year. The most-needed items for the food drive are: canned tomatoes, fruit, corn, peas, cereal, mac and cheese, PB, dry baby food, canned dinners and soups.

This year, Corinth's YIA (Youth in Action) club will be assisting in collecting food for this drive. Collection boxes will be available at Corinth from November 9-November 21. In addition, Corinth kids will be manning tables at the Hen House grocery store at Corinth Square on Friday, November 11 from 10-2.

Please do what you can (pun intended) to help this good cause.
Chat-n-Chew is here! Calling all 3rd-6th graders! Get out of the lunchroom and have some fun chatting with your friends about one of the awesome books chosen for your grade. Your leaders will have fun things planned for your discussion... all you have to do is read a good book.
Parents: Please look over the attached list of Chat-n-Chew books for this year. Each student will need to purchase, borrow or check out the books listed for their grade level. We need to have your child return the attached enrollment form if they would like to participate in order to place them in a group. Please return this form by November 29th!

See here for flyer with more information, enrollment form, and volunteer form.
Vineyard Vines - Corinth Shopping Night

It's a win/win so be sure to check your lists and check them twice!

Throughout the school year, there are so many great opportunities to take pictures of the kiddos in your class, and I know your teacher, kids, and parents appreciate your efforts to share those with them. There’s another group who appreciates your efforts too, and that’s the yearbook committee! Would you consider sharing some of your best photos with us too?

How can you share them with us, you ask? Easy. There’s a “Community site” where you can upload your favorite pictures, and we then have instant access to basically drag and drop them into our yearbook pages. It’s an easy system, and I would be so appreciative if you would use it and share just some of the pictures you take. I cannot stress how crucial your pictures are to the yearbook!! And that’s because the yearbook committee has a goal of making sure every Corinth child is in the yearbook, and not just the regular headshot portrait that was taken of them in September. Fun pictures of them in action are included too, and again we want every child represented.

Some tips on the types of pictures that really help us:

  1. Groups of 2-5 kids are ideal, but more can certainly be included.
  2. Any opportunity to get a full class shot is great too.
  3. Mix up the kids in the picture – there are some that jump into every picture (my kid!), but there are shy ones that don’t usually. Make sure you get them too.
  4. Pictures from a camera are preferred because they will be at the resolution required for printing, but if you use your phone, make sure you send yourself the highest resolution/largest size available so that we get a good quality picture. Too many times I’ve gotten “phone pics” that are so small that we can’t use them.
  5. You can be picky about what you upload into the community site. We don’t need every picture you take.

To get into the Community site:
1. Log on to the community site. Link here.
2. Enter our school’s code:
3. Check out both attachments here and here for more instructions

Some additional important tips when you upload:
1. Please include the names of the kids in the picture in the “keywords” section. That way we can search our database for a child if we need to find a picture of him/her. (The description isn’t really required.)
The Category dropdown will list the grades. Pick the one that applies to you.

Please let Laura Cribb know if you have ANY questions!!! Thank you in advance to any of you who help with the pictures.

As Spanish is a big part of the PTA's academic enrichment program at Corinth, the PTA wants to make sure the Spanish program continues to meet the needs of the students, parents, teachers, and administration. As such, the PTA is forming a special committee this year to review and evaluate the current Spanish program at Corinth. We invite anyone with an interest in serving on the committee to email Dani Beaver, the PTA VP of Academic Enrichment, by this Wednesday, November 9th.
As a part of the process, we anticipate seeking parent input on the program, so please watch the newsletter for more information on that opportunity.

Thank you!

Thank you to all of our room parents for keeping us organized! We especially thank you and the other parent volunteers for organizing and executing the fun Halloween parties this past week!
