Your Corinth PTA Newsletter
Week of November 9-13 2015
Hello Corinth Families!

What a week! Last week, I said it would be "relatively quiet" at Corinth. We all knew the Royals would take the Crown, but who knew school would be closed for a "blue snow day" on Tuesday?

So back to our regularly scheduled school year. And speaking of schedules, a few weeks ago, we received notice that some of the days off were changing. This coming week is one of those affected. THERE IS NO SCHOOL THIS FRIDAY (and will have school on the 17th).

The Scholastic Book Fair is going on until Thursday. It's a great time to pick up gifts for the holidays.

We hope to see you all on Wednesday night for some burgers and fries at Five Guys in Ward Parkway Center.

And on Thursday morning, the PTA Coffee will be at the Book Fair, so we can mingle and shop.

If you are looking for something to do with your Dragons on Friday afternoon, come to Skate City for a Corinth Skate Party!

Have a great week! Happy Reading!

Erin Herbst
PTA President

TO DO THIS WEEK:
1. Volunteer at the Book Fair

Thanks to all who have already signed up to volunteer. There are a few spots still open. If your schedule permits, we appreciate all who can volunteer!

SIGN UP FOR A SHIFT HERE.
2. Shop at the Book Fair

Monday, November 9 ~ 8-3:45
Tuesday, November 10 ~ 8-3:45
Wednesday, November 11 ~ 8-6 NOTE: WEDNESDAY IS OPEN LATE
Thursday, November 12 ~ 8-3:45 NOTE: CHANGE OF END TIME

Typically Monday and Tuesday are preview days during which the kids will look at the book selection and choose which books they would like to have. Wednesday and Thursday are the purchasing days during which the kids buy their book selections, but anyone can buy books at any time during the week.

Don't forget: the teachers all have "wish lists' on file at the Book Fair. Please consider purchasing a book for your child's classroom when you are at the check out desk.
3. Wednesday: Shop Late at the Book Fair (until 6 p.m.) and then head to Five Guys for Corinth Night 5-8 p.m.

Join the Corinth community for burgers and fries this month! Five Guys (Ward Parkway only) will give back a percentage of the night's proceeds to our school. This Five Guys is owned by a Corinth family and we are grateful for their ongoing support of Corinth.
4. JOIN THE PTA FOR COFFEE ON THURSDAY @ 8:15 A.M.

The PTA will have our monthly coffee on Thursday this week, so we can shop at the Book Fair. All are welcome! We'll have coffee, treats, and lots of books to browse!
5. LACE UP YOUR SKATES

Join Corinth families on Friday from 12-2 for a Corinth Skate Party at Skate City ( 10440 Mastin St, Overland Park). Check your child's backpack for more information and pricing details.
6. MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THE LEGISLATIVE FORUM November 17

The Corinth PTA cordially invites all Corinth parents to our 2015 Legislative Affairs Forum!

Please bring your questions about current KS education-related topics as we welcome Representative Stephanie Clayton (KS House of Representatives, 19th District- this includes Corinth area) and Mary Fox Sinclair (KS PTA, Legis. Affairs Chair). Please feel free to bring guests!

Light refreshments and valuable information served!

We hope to see you there!

7. BRING IN CANS FOR A GOOD CAUSE

It is time again for the “We Care I Can” Canned Food Drive!

This year, Girls on the Run’s (GOTR) Corinth Chapter is partnering with the Shawnee Mission School District to lead the drive at Corinth! As part of the GOTR Mission, each chapter participates in a Community Service Project during their program session. From November 1 – 24th the Corinth Community can donate canned foods to help those Johnson County families in need this holiday season.

Items needed include: Canned tomatoes, fruit, corn, peas, cereal, macaroni & cheese, Jello, peanut butter, dry baby food, canned meat, canned dinners and soups. For more information you can visit the JCCB Website.

GOTR will have grade level boxes set up in the hallway outside of the office throughout the month of November. The grade that donates the most during the donation drive will get an extra recess/outdoor activity after the Thanksgiving holiday! All donations will be picked up by the 24th so make sure you donate early and often.

Good Luck Dragons! Let’s show the community how Corinth gives back!

Thanks for your assistance!

8. SIGN UP FOR CHAT-N-CHEW

Does your 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th grader love to read? Chat-n-Chew is a fun "book club" where the students and parent volunteers read four books in the spring semester, and meet at lunchtime to discuss each one.

CLICK HERE for the Sign-Up form and more information. Contact Margi Wilson or Kelly Cannova.

Form due November 24.

UPDATE: Only one book (A Cricket in Times Square) will be available at the Scholastic Book Fair. If you are ordering other books on Amazon, please consider using Amazon Smile (Link under Calendar), so that Corinth can benefit. Thanks!
