Week of December 12 - December 16, 2016
Hello Corinth Families!

Baby, it is cold outside! Bundle up and enjoy the feel of winter!

Your to-do list this week:
* Can you help with some time to cover recess duty so our teachers and staff can enjoy a holiday lunch on Thursday?
* Don't forget to appreciate our wonderful staff at Corinth with a donation to the gift fund. Donations due on Friday.

Amy McCarthy
PTA President
Staff Appreciation Luncheon
To help celebrate the holidays, the Corinth Staff Appreciation Committee is coordinating a special luncheon for all staff to enjoy together and to give them a bit of extra time to actually enjoy it - we are asking for a couple more parent volunteers to help with recess on Thursday, December 15. Slots are just one hour and we just need two parents for each slot. You can sign up here.

The PTA is collecting funds to show our appreciation to the Corinth staff who do so much for the kids. If you would like to make a small ($5-10) contribution to the PTA's Holiday Gift Fund, we will purchase gift cards for the staff on behalf of the Corinth family.
Please send donations to the office by Friday, December 16th, and mark the envelope Bridget Hoffman - Holiday Fund.
See flyer here for more information.
Any questions, please contact Bridget Hoffman.

Make Your Tax-Deductible Donation and Support Corinth!

The Corinth Auction is looking for sponsors to underwrite the event so that every dollar we earn in the auction goes straight back to the school, to continue to support the parent-funded programs (Spanish, Math Aide and Maker Space, among others). Corporate Sponsors can promote their business to the families of 550 Corinth students, plus many more in the community. Parents or parents’ businesses who sponsor with at least $100 will gain early access to bid on spots at adult and children’s parties, which are among the fastest selling items offered at the auction. Other benefits are detailed on the attached Sponsorship Levels flyer. Your cash donations are tax deductible, and may be made in 2016 or 2017. For more information, contact Erin Herbst.

Thank you again to all the parents who hosted and donated to this year's parent parties! The current totals by class are:
K $6332
1st $5120
2nd $5057
3rd $4325
4th $4117
5th $3553
6th $2892

If you haven’t had the chance to donate, you still can! Send a check made out to “Corinth PTA” via backpack mail. Please put it in an envelope marked “Parent Parties” with your child’s grade.

We invite anyone with comments or questions on the Spanish program or an interest in serving on the Spanish Special committee to email Dani Beaver, the PTA VP of Academic Enrichment.
Enjoy video highlights from the PTA Parent Coffee and MakerSpace Tour on December 2nd!

It is that time of the year again. We are starting to collect used books for the used book sale at Corinth. The sale will run the week of February 6. We need kids books, chapter books and adult books. You can drop them off at the school. We will be partnering up again with Hooked on Books. After the sale, all of the books that are left will be donated to kids in the greater KC area.
The 6th grade classes will be making a t-shirt quilt as their classroom treasure gift for the school auction. We are looking for used and/or new Corinth t-shirts to make this happen. We need all sizes, any year and any style. We will be collecting during the months of November and December. Look for the collection bin in the school office. Contact Amy Turpin for questions.
With all the yummy holiday food coming up, there are sure to be a couple of packages with the box tops for education on them. Do not forget to clip those box tops for Corinth! Every little bit counts.
Eat pizza to raise funds! Join us at Dewey's Pizza at 3615 W 95th Street, Overland Park on Monday, January 9th. Present the paper certificate or via mobile device (see here) and up to 20% of all food and beverage purchases from 4-10 (dine-in or carry-out) will be donated to Corinth!

Congratulations to Mason Warner, this year's school spelling bee champion. Congrats as well to Amina Sankpill and Grace Fields, 2nd and 3rd places respectively. Way to go super-spellers!

Calling all poets!

Lend your talents for the district’s new Center for Academic Achievement

We are seeking submissions of poetry written by current Shawnee Mission School District students for consideration to be included in a display in the district’s new Center for Academic Achievement.

What kind of poem?

Our theme, education, is general to allow some personalization.

Writers could choose to articulate the importance of education, their personal journey of education, impact of teachers, etc.

Rules for Submission

The short poem entries should be no more than five lines of text and include a title along with your name, grade level, and school.

All entries should be submitted online using this link.

Due Date:

Deadline for entries to be submitted is 5 p.m. on December 15, 2016.

The art room is in need of glue sticks and baby wipes if you are able to donate some to the cause. Thank you!
