It is that time again. Time to clean out your bookshelves. Corinth Used Book Sale needs your used books. You can drop off your books at the school office or you can leave them on the porch at Julie Crabb's house 2512 W 84th St, 66206. Thank you for your help.
The Used Book Sale will be the week of February 8. All unsold books will be donated to Hooked on Books.

Healthy New Year’s Resolutions for Kids

The start of the new year is a great time to help your children focus on forming good habits. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) provides the following list of ideas for you to talk to your children about trying, depending on their age.

Kids, 5 to 12 years old

  • I will drink reduced-fat milk and water every day, and drink soda and fruit drinks only at special times.
  • I will take care of my skin by putting on sunscreen before I go outdoors on bright, sunny days. I will try to stay in the shade whenever possible and wear a hat and sunglasses, especially when I'm playing sports.
  • I will try to find a sport (like basketball or soccer) or an activity (like playing tag, jumping rope, dancing or riding my bike) that I like and do it at least three times a week!
  • I will always wear a helmet when riding a bike, scooter or skateboard.
  • I will wear my seat belt every time I get in a car. I'll sit in the back seat and use a booster seat until I am tall enough to use a lap/shoulder seat belt.
  • I'll be friendly to kids who may have a hard time making friends by asking them to join activities such as sports or games.
  • I will always tell an adult about any bullying I may see or hear about to help keep school safe for everyone.
  • I will keep my personal information safe and not share my name, home address, school name or telephone number on the Internet. Also, I'll never send a picture of myself to someone I chat with on the computer without asking my parent if it is okay.
  • I will try to talk with my parent or a trusted adult when I have a problem or feel stressed.
  • I promise to follow our household rules for videogames and internet use.

SME Swim Clinic - January 23

The clinic is open to any interested swimmers — not just those in the SME district area. It’s a great opportunity for young swimmers to meet and work with Shawnee Mission East’s championship-winning swimmers and coaches in a fun and engaging atmosphere. And all proceeds directly benefit the team.

There are 2 sessions:

  • 10:30-noon for ages 10 and under
  • noon-1:30 for ages 11 and up

The cost is $25 and each attendee gets 1 1/2 hours of instruction, the opportunity to swim in fun relays, and every participant receives a treat bag with a SME Swim and Dive t-shirt.

Proceeds from this fundraiser go to the parent boosters of the SME Boys’ Swim and Dive team and directly benefit the team.

These sessions do fill quickly so early registration is recommended. All details are on the attached flier, or parents can visit the SME Boys Swim & Dive Team web page to download additional registration forms.
SME Cheer Clinic - January 29

Did you know that we have FIVE days off school during Jan & Feb?! We can help you out with one day...sign up for the Lancer Cheer Clinic on 1/29! Your kids will be cheering, jumping & doing stunts with SME Cheerleaders from 9:30-noon, with a performance for the parents at 11:30 am. K-8th graders welcome. Please mail $40 & the attached registration form before 1/15 to guarantee the requested t-shirt size. Walk-ins are always welcome but may not be guaranteed the requested size. Participants can then cheer during halftime of the girls’ varsity basketball game on 2/2 at 6:45 pm.
