Your Corinth PTA Newsletter
Week of January 9 - January 13, 2017
Hello Corinth Families!

I hope everyone has adjusted back to the school routine already! Note that we have more short weeks coming, with the kids off on Friday for Professional Development and the next Monday for MLK Day. Look for my next newsletter on Monday evening, January 16.

Your to-do list for this week:
  • Dewey's Pizza restaurant night on Monday, January 9th. Don't forget to bring the flyer in paper form or electronically (see below).
  • Clean out your bookshelves in the new year, and donate to the used book sale.
  • Have any old electronics, legos, or monitors to donate to the Maker Space?
  • No school Friday, January 13.
Thanks!

USED BOOK SALE
We are about a month away from the Used Book Sale!
The sale will be the week of February 6. Please take some time and clean out your kids books, chapter books and adult books. You can drop them off at the school. We will be partnering up again with Hooked on Books. After the sale, all of the books that are left will be donated to kids in the greater KC area.
DEWEY'S PIZZA RESTAURANT NIGHT
Eat pizza to raise funds! Join us at Dewey's Pizza at 3615 W 95th Street, Overland Park on Monday, January 9th. Present the paper certificate or via mobile device (see here) and up to 20% of all food and beverage purchases from 4-10 (dine-in or carry-out) will be donated to Corinth!

CORINTH BENEFIT AUCTION,
presented by Country Club Bank

Kendra Scott Fundraising Event

Mark your calendar for the Jan. 19th Kendra Scott fundraiser shopping event. 6-8 p.m. on the Plaza. Enjoy sips, sweets and jewels. 20% of purchases that night will benefit Corinth. Grab your girlfriends and make it a GNO! See invitation here .

Stock the Bar

Donations are needed for one of the auction's live items, Stock the Bar. All spirits, wine and mixers have graciously been donated by Worldwide Wine and Spirits but wine and beer glasses are needed {think IKEA}. Sign up here if you can help.

Parent Party Hosts Needed – NEW Incentive to Host!

Amazing Race, international themes, costume, throwback, you name it – parties for parents are needed for the auction. Please consider hosting a great time with a few other fellow Corinth parents!

To host, you simply come up with a theme, date, time and location. The auction committee will advertise and sell your party at the March 4th event and then pass along details of those who paid to attend. The hosts cover the cost to have the party, which in return is your donation to the auction. A new incentive to parent party hosts: Nicole and Todd Rolofson, Worldwide Wine and Spirits, will provide the alcohol for your party! You read that correctly, this generous Corinth family will provide select wine, spirits and beer. This off-sets a good deal of hosting costs, yet provides an evening of fun and ticket donations to Corinth. Contact Stacey Grecian if you can host.

BODY VENTURE IS COMING

An exciting exhibit is coming to our school on Thursday, March 30, 2017. Body Venture is a unique educational program designed to involve students in learning the skills and choices for a healthy lifestyle. Children learn about the importance of good nutrition choices by walking through a 45-foot by 50-foot exhibit representing the human body. The exhibit was designed and created by the Kansas State Department of Education, Child Nutrition & Wellness.
See here for more information.

The school will need lots of parent volunteers to make this exhibit work. Be watching for a sign-up genius about a month away from the event. In the meanwhile, please contact Nurse Albert or Amy McCarthy with questions.

MAKERSPACE ITEMS NEEDED

The school is currently accepting items for our new “Tinker” area of the Maker Space. This space will allow students to take apart, build, and explore old or unwanted technology. Donations can include old VCR’s, DVD players, small electronics, home phones… Anything that doesn’t work and would be safe for students to take apart. It is also looking for legos and 2 19-30 inch monitors or TV's that must have the HDMI port for Nano computer stations. Please call the office if you have any questions.
