Week of January 25 - 29, 2016
Hello Corinth Families!

The calendar says it's January, and we've seen a little snow and single digits. But this week we might see 60 degrees!

On Monday night, the Shawnee Mission School District's Board of Education is voting on the calendar for the 2016-17 school year. CLICK HERE to see the proposed calendar.

Have a great week!

CORINTH NEWS:

Notes from the Nurse

1) Our annual Johnson County Health Department free dental clinic (screening only) is scheduled for Friday, March 4., 8:15-11:30 am. This screening is in compliance with Kansas State Statute 72-5201. All students will be screened unless parent/guardian does not want the child to participate. Oral health is an important part of children’s overall health, and is a critical component in the child’s ability to learn and succeed in school. If your child does participate, a copy of the results of the screening will be sent home with the child.

***The nurse needs (4) parent volunteers that can help during this time (2 parent runners and keeping classes in line, and 2 that can record results). Please let the nurse know if you are available to volunteer. Also, please let me know if you prefer your child to opt out. Thank you!
Contact Nurse Albert.

2) Children’s Mercy Star Power Program is visiting our 3rd and 4th grade classes in the next few weeks to discuss the topic of self-esteem. This program supplements curriculum and goes hand in hand with anti-bullying lessons. More information can be found at on their web site .

FOOD SERVICE….Did you know…………

Did you know that physical activity and nutrition work together for better health? Regular physical activity can produce long term health benefits. People of all ages, shapes, sizes, and abilities can benefit from being physically active. The more physical activity you do, the greater the health benefits. Children and adolescents should do 60 minutes or more of physical activity each day. Most of the 60 minutes should be either moderate- or vigorous intensity aerobic physical activity. For more information, please visit: the SMSD Food Service Page or the CDC's Guidelines on Physical Activity.

Don’t forget – if your child receives free or reduced meals, they are eligible for one breakfast and one lunch per day as part of this benefit. All breakfast and lunch meal choices are available for all students regardless of eligibility status.

The school breakfast menus, lunch menus, and other nutrition information are available on the district’s website.
