Amy McCarthy
PTA President
Thank you so much to those who have already signed up to help with the Used Book Sale coming up the week of February 6. We will have a number of shifts during which we need help for such things as set up, assisting students, collecting money, and boxing up books. If you have an hour or two to come and help, it would be greatly appreciated!
Sign up here to help with the used book sale!

Check your Dragon’s backpack for your invitation to the auction. The invitations are in a navy envelope, were provided to teachers on Friday and should have been sent home then or will be early this week.

Online Auction
Once again we will use BidPal, a mobile auction service, which allows attendees to purchase event tickets online, register credit card payment and participate in the silent auction the night of the event….all from your smartphone!

Go to here to purchase tickets, register your credit card and view/participate in the silent auction. All from your smartphone or computer!

  • Click “Register” at the top of the page to create a profile and login. Previous user login not required.
  • Purchase tickets, $50 per person*. *Does not include online convenience fee of $1.25/ticket
  • When purchasing tickets, note there are three packages: couples {includes 2 tickets}, individual {1 ticket} or teacher/select sponsor options. If you buy a couples ticket, only enter 1 in the quantity since that package includes two tickets.
  • You will be asked to provide a name, mobile number and email address for each person getting a ticket. Keep the box checked when asked to “Use the same bidder # as” – which means you and your spouse will share a bid number {ideal}.
  • Save your card information for Express Checkout at the auction!

R.S.V.P. by February 16th

  • BidPal: preferred. No need to turn anything into the office. Buy tickets and respond online.
  • Office: send $50 per person payable to Corinth PTA into the office with the name{s}, number of attendees and a mobile number for each guest.

Stay tuned for more details each week in the Corinth PTA eBlast and on the auction Facebook page.

Become a Friend of Corinth for Early Bidding!
Sponsor the auction for just $100 and receive early party bidding before open to other bidders. With your tax-deductible donation of $100, you will be granted early access to the parent and kids parties offered through the auction. Stock the Bar
Donations are needed for one of the auction's live items, Stock the Bar. All spirits, wine and mixers have graciously been donated by Worldwide Wine and Spirits but wine and beer glasses are needed {think IKEA}. Sign up here if you can help.

March 1st. Place your box tops in a plastic baggie or envelope with your student's name as well as the teacher's name and send to the office via backpack mail. The top two classes submitting the most Box Tops will earn an extra recess!! Thanks for you support!

Kindergarten roundup will take place on April 18th from 6:30-8pm. Please take note if you will have an incoming kindergartner (or let any neighbors know, who might have an incoming kindergartner) for the 2017-18 school year.

In addition, first grade roundup will take place on April 18th from 11:50-1:30. Incoming first grade students for the 2017-2018 school year will have the opportunity to eat lunch with the first graders from 11:50-12:15. Beginning at 12:20, these students will visit each first grade classroom for an informational 10-minute activity. These rotations will conclude around 12:50 and there will then be a time for a question/answer session with Mr. Lowe.

An exciting exhibit is coming to our school on Thursday, March 30, 2017. Body Venture is a unique educational program designed to involve students in learning the skills and choices for a healthy lifestyle. Children learn about the importance of good nutrition choices by walking through a 45-foot by 50-foot exhibit representing the human body. The exhibit was designed and created by the Kansas State Department of Education, Child Nutrition & Wellness.
See here for more information.

The school will need lots of parent volunteers to make this exhibit work. Be watching for a sign-up genius about a month away from the event. In the meanwhile, please contact Nurse Albert or Amy McCarthy with questions.

From Principal Lowe:
Our district, in collaboration with community volunteers and NEA-SM, is gearing up to participate in a national week-long campaign focused on kindness. The Great Kindness Challenge will take place from Jan. 23 – Jan. 30. The national campaign ends on Jan. 27, but because our district does not have school on Jan. 27, we are extending our challenge through the following Monday, Jan. 30. The goal of the challenge is to encourage our staff and students to find ways to work specific acts of kindness into their day. Resource materials from the national Great Kindness Challenge organizers, which can be printed or accessed digitally, include a list of kindness challenges for participants. During morning announcements next week, Corinth students will share acts of kindness they have performed or plan to perform during the week. The district is providing each school with buttons that say “Kindness Matters.” All students and staff will have these buttons delivered to them on Monday, January 23rd. Students can wear these buttons all week to show support for this campaign. Teachers will also take time each day next week to talk about kindness and how to demonstrate kindness to others. The Great Kindness Challenge is the initial event in a series of plans the district is working on to foster a culture of kindness. Following the week-long challenge, the Shawnee Mission School District will be working with community members, teachers, students, and other interested stakeholders, to implement trainings for staff, opportunities for students, and events that foster community engagement, all with the goal of creating a culture in our district in which all people value and respect all individuals. This is an opportunity for us to engage in important conversations about being thoughtful, compassionate people with students. Kindness already matters in the Shawnee Mission School District, but this week is dedicated to making it explicit. Please embrace this chance to model and encourage kindness in new ways with your Dragon.

See here for more information on the challenge.
