Your Corinth PTA Newsletter
Week of February 6 - February 10, 2017
Hello Corinth Families!

Welcome to the first full week of school in 2017! PTA events are starting to heat up again, so watch this newsletter closely for information on our spring activities! We will have lots of opportunities to volunteer, get involved, give back, and have fun!

Your to-do list for this week:
  • The Used Booksale is this week, Monday-Friday. Consider sending some money with your dragon to pick out a book or two, or coming in yourself and picking up a great new read.
  • Planet Sub Restaurant "Night" is Tuesday, all day (10 am - 9 pm)! Consider Planet Sub for lunch too. Just tell them you are with Corinth.
  • RSVP for the auction! No need to wait until the last minute. I just bought our tickets - super easy through this link. Also, check your calendar to see if you have time to volunteer for a shift or two to help set up or at the event! There will still be plenty of time to enjoy the party!

Amy McCarthy
PTA President
Come visit the Used Book Sale this week at the school! We have adult books, chapter books and kid books. Come pick up a new-to-you read for yourself and/or send a few dollars with your Dragon to pick out a book of their own.
Tuesday, February 7
10 am - 9 pm

Support your school on Tuesday, February 7 at Planet Sub, and they will donate 20% back to Corinth! Come in between 10 am and 9 pm and tell them you are from Corinth.

The auction is March 4th. Don’t delay, RSVP by Feb. 16th and buy your tickets to this not-to-miss event. Tickets are $50/person and includes heavy appetizers, beer, wine and signature cocktail*. Prices will increase after Feb. 16th, so get yours today!

Go to this site to purchase your tickets and register your credit card information for purchases the night of the auction. All proceeds from the event benefit Corinth, funding resources the school district and state budgets no longer cover. It’s a great night out and supports our Dragons! *Signature cocktail is a Moscow Mule, $10 charge for a copper mug that’s yours to keep and refills included!

Auction Day-Of Volunteers - Volunteers are needed the day of the auction to transport items from Leawood to Milburn Country Club, set up, assist with check-in and check-out. Please sign up to help.

Become a Friend of Corinth for Early Bidding!

Sponsor the auction for just $100 and receive early party bidding before open to other bidders. With your tax-deductible donation of $100, you will be granted early access to the parent and kids parties offered through the auction. These unique, limited attendee parties always sell out so be sure to become a Friend of Corinth for VIP access to parties. Contact Erin Herbst to become a donor.

Boxes and Baskets
Baskets and boxes needed for the auction. If you have either in any size, please drop off in the office. We'll use them to bundle items and layer packages on tables at the event.

Please consider volunteering to be a part of "The committee formally known as The Tall Oaks Committee.” The responsibilities include fundraising and planning for some special activities for your child and his or her classmates during their 6th grade year at Corinth. Traditionally this has included a couple of team building days at a challenge course, such as Tall Oaks or, most recently, Timber Ridge and some classroom parties that include all 6th grade classes together. Much of the work of this committee is done during the 5th grade year. If you would like to volunteer or have any questions, please contact Margaret Chaffee.
Check out our newly relaunched website! It will serve as a portal to link to PTA content in other locations (such as the archive for this newsletter, the directory, and the facebook page) and school links. We now have a link to information about the auction and some of our great sponsors!
Mark your calendars to join us for a general PTA meeting on February 16 from 11:40-12:30 in the school library. The PTA is planning to formally recognize our school winners of the Reflections and Citizenship contests.

See here for flyer on the February 9th Open House.
Please note the new date!

The Indian Hills Open House has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 9th. Enrollment forms are not required to be returned until after that date. Finalizing online enrollment will occur at Corinth on student Ipads. The online enrollment window is Monday February 13th through Thursday the 16th.

Also, for the new Introduction to Journalism class, students must apply. Paper applications will be available in the school office. Note that each applying student must also ask 2 current teachers to submit an online recommendation.

Join SEPTA on February 7 at 6:30 at Indian Creek Technology Center with the SMSD Transition Team to talk about transferring children within the Special Education world. See here for flyer with more information.

Attached please find the web version of the 2017 SMSD Summer Enrichment booklet. Printed booklets should arrive at Corinth by February 17 to be sent home (one per family) no later than March 3. Enrollment begins March 20.

SMAC PTA General Meeting
- Bring Friends Contest~
Wednesday - Feb. 15 - Noon - bring your lunch and bring your friends, and we'll provide the 'smart snacks'!!!
The unit with the most attendance will receive a Sam's gift card (if a tie, we will draw)
This will be a very informative time covering 'smart snacks' -- ideas for your room parties, testing snacks, etc. SMSD Food Service Director and Nutritionist, Nancy Coughenour and Jill Funk will review Federal Guidelines and how-to's in being compliant with Smart Snacks.
Bring your room parents, your Hospitality chairs, your boards...ALL are welcome to the General Meeting.
We will also have the opportunity to hear from Linda Siek, Shawnee Mission - National Education Association Rep and Liz Meitl, working with the district in cultural competency and character education. They will share information regarding collaborations taking place between the district, NEA Shawnee Mission, and the community on education and training in civility/kindness for staff and students.
