Your Corinth PTA Newsletter
Week of August 24 - 28, 2015
Hello Corinth Families!

This Thursday is an important day at Corinth - it's our annual Back to School Night. This is a parent-only event, which includes visits to your child's classroom to learn about what he or she will be doing this year. And I know Mr. Lowe is eager to have the opportunity to speak to all the parents! This night also serves as our General PTA Meeting, where we approve our budget. If you have a question or comments about the budget, please respond to this email. I will do my best to address all pre-submitted questions on Thursday, as well as any that arise that night.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday evening!

Erin Herbst
PTA President
TO DO THIS WEEK:
1. ALL PARENTS: ATTEND BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT THURSDAY

6:00-6:30 (K-3rd Grade): Go to your child's classroom for important information from the teacher.
6:30-7:00: PTA General Membership Meeting
7:00-7:30 (4th - 6th Grade): Go to your child's classroom for important information from the teacher.

Please plan to attend the PTA General Membership Meeting. We will hear from Mr. Lowe, introduce the teachers, meet the PTA board, learn about the PTA, and approve the PTA budget.

Click to review the Budgets for PTA and CEF. Please submit any questions about the budget by responding to this email.

Please remember that Back to School Night is a parent-only event.

2. PARENTS of Kindergarteners and 6th Graders: Attend Annual Parent Parties on Saturday Night

These fun, casual, adult-only events, are a great way to connect with parents in your child's grade, and are held in conjunction with our annual fundraising. Suggested donation is $125/student, but all donations are appreciated. The primary purpose of this annual fund drive is to raise money to fund
the twice-weekly Spanish program and a full time Math Aide.

Kindergarten hosted by Jennifer & Brian Dierks (7-11 p.m.)

6th Grade hosted by Amanda & Dave Hassett (5:30-10 p.m.)
3. unPack iPads

The iPads are coming! Your students will receive them on/or about September 9. In the meantime, we need 9 Parents to help unpack and sort them on Thursday, August 27.

SIGN UP HERE for a shift.
There's Still Time to:
FILL OUT VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP FORM

Our PTA has many volunteer opportunities throughout the year, whether you have one hour, one day, or one month. Sign-ups for room parents and classroom volunteering will be done on Back to School Night. This year we are asking all families to complete this PTA form on line. It's that easy!

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES:
Keep these Events Going!

1. Endangered Species: We have a few events/committees that need a chair (or two) in order to continue this year. We'll put you in contact with prior chairs, who can help guide you this year.
  • Green Dragons (Keep Corinth Green!)
  • Youth In Action (5th & 6th Grade community service)
  • Used Book Sale
2. Smile! We also need someone to help coordinate the volunteers on School Picture Day (Friday, September 11).

2. New Kids on the Block: This year, we are also looking into having an after-school Running Club, and/or a Girls on The Run (girls in 3rd - 6th) group. We will need coaches for both programs, and a chair for the Running Club.

Please contact Erin Herbst if you are interested in any of the above, or need more information. If you would like to coach Girls on the Run, contact Jenn Miller.
PTA NEWS:
MEET OUR NEW MATH AIDE!

The Corinth PTA is excited to be funding a full-time Math Aide, who will be working with all grade levels.
My name is Amy Bayles. I am originally from Nashville, TN but have lived in Kansas City for the past 30 years. I attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX and have been a paraprofessional with Shawnee Mission Schools for the past 11 years. I am married and have 3 children (plus one son-in-law). I am passionate about education and am excited about the opportunity to help your children with math. I love being a Corinth Dragon!

Don't Cook on Thursdays

The winner of the auction's Meals on Wheels (35 weeks of home cooked meals by Corinth parents, or gift cards) has moved and is offereing the opportunity to another family to receive their meals each Thursday throughout the year. If you are willing to pay the $1700 that they paid, pleae contact Trisha Sims. If we do not receive an offer for the full amount, the meals will go to the highest offer received by 11:59 p.m. on August 28th.

Mr. Lowe is in the News!

THANK YOU to our Volunteers!
  • SPIRIT WEAR. Thanks to Sally Hardinger and Amy Neusal, who worked hard over the summer and got a great logo for this year's shirts! Dragons will be wearing them with pride!
