Your Corinth PTA Newsletter
Week of March 6 - March 10, 2017
Hello Corinth Families!

All hail the auction goddesses, Jenn Miller and Trisha Sims! They managed to outdo themselves, working tirelessly to give us the auction spectacular Saturday night. These are two truly amazing women, and I can not thank them enough for all they have given to Corinth. Many more thanks are forthcoming, as it took many hands to make the auction such a success, but I could not let this newsletter pass without an acknowlegement of the fabulousness of our co-chairs.

Your to-do list for this week:
  • Chick-fil-A night on Tuesday. Choose the easy dinner option and support the school from 3:30-9:30.
  • Vinyard Vines shopping on Wednesday evening (5-8). You can stock up for spring break!
  • Spring Fling registration forms due Thursday, March 9. Come experience Moroccan Nights!
  • No school on Friday -- end of the 3rd quarter and start of Spring Break.
  • We need help with Body Venture on March 30. The signup genius link is below.
  • The spring Walking School Bus volunteer link is now live. Look below to see if you can help on Wednesdays in April.
  • Mark your calendar for the Dragon Dash April 29th and register through the site below.
  • The second part of the Kansas Supreme Court's Gannon decision about the constitutionality of Kansas school funding was issued this past week. More information and links are below on the details of this ruling.
The next regular newsletter should be coming March 19, the end of spring break. Have a wonderful break Dragons, and come back ready to hit the final quarter of school!

BODY VENTURE

BODY VENTURE IS COMING TO CORINTH!

We will need your help to make this a fun and educational experience for our students! Body Venture, a traveling exhibit from the Kansas State Department of Education, Child Nutrition and Wellness, will visit Corinth Elementary on Thursday, March 30, 2017. This is a unique educational program designed to involve Kindergarten through 5th grade students in learning the skills and choices for a healthy lifestyle. Body Venture consists of a 45-foot by 50-foot walk through exhibit representing the human body. Please consider volunteering!

Spring Walking School Bus coming soon!

Corinth Elementary Walking Wednesday campaign encourages students and parents to walk or bike to school. Our program promotes healthy habits, reduces traffic congestion, boosts our sense of community, and encourages our cities to provide safe routes to school.

Please plan on walking or biking with your student(s) on Wednesday April 5, 12, 19, and 26. Our program also provides Walking School Bus drop-off sites for parents who would like their child to participate, but may live too far for them to walk, or are not able to join them.

Are you a parent who would like to assist with Walking Wednesdays? If so, sign up here.

Need more information? Please contact Nicole Harris, this year’s PTA Walking School Bus Chair at (816) 665-3095 or by email.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Parents, the Kansas Supreme Court ruled in the Gannon case last week. While the court ruled that Kansas must increase its per-pupil spending by June 30, 2017, the "how-to" remains at issue. To read a great analysis of the ruling, please see the non-partisan site for M ainstream Coalition, and please contact our legislative representatives and Governor Brownback in support of public education!

2016-2017 Corinth Yearbook

We know that one of the most treasured items from your child’s school years is their yearbook. That’s why the Corinth PTA makes sure that each Corinth student receives a complimentary yearbook funded from the PTA dues collected throughout the year. This will be a full color yearbook with 60 pages of highlights and events from the school year.

However, if your child needs an additional yearbook, you can purchase an extra one:

  • Bring a check in the amount of $16 to the office, made payable to “Corinth PTA.”
  • Please note “your child’s name” and “yearbook” on the check.
  • Send an email to Laura Cribb to make sure your additional yearbook is added to the total order.
  • Please send your email and bring your check to the office by March 27, 2017.
