Week of March 28 - April 1, 2016
Hello Corinth Families!

March madness continues. And by that I mean, snow on Easter, and KU defeated. Madness!

April and May will both be busy months at Corinth, and we will be holding many events that rely on volunteers to be successful. Please consider lending a hand when you can. We know every one has different obligations, and are grateful for every minute you can give. Read below for information about helping with Spring Fling, the Corinth Garden and Walking Wednesdays.

Finally, Dr. Hinson will have his final Super Chat of the school year on Thursday at Indian Hills. Please note: the time has changed to 6:30 p.m.

Have a great week!

Erin Herbst
PTA President

Drop in with Superintendent, Dr. Jim Hinson....join the conversation, get informed, ask your questions!

4. Vote For Mrs. Bridwell's First Grade Class

I have submitted a proposal to Farmers Insurance to receive a grant for $2500 to purchase a class set of Wobble Chairs. The chairs allow the children to have movement while at their desks. I have three already and am in love with these chairs (as are the kids)! The kids that have the seats are more actively engaged! I see such a positive result with more activity!

The grants are given based on votes. Voters may vote once a day per device throughout March. There are a lot of other teachers that have submitted proposals, as it is nationwide. I could use all the support and votes I can get! Is there any way you can help me promote my proposal to families for votes?

I really appreciate all support on help receiving this grant! I am really excited about this opportunity!!

VOTE HERE EVERY DAY IN MARCH!

5. Saturday: Help Get the Corinth Garden Ready for Spring

Volunteers are needed to assist the garden team in sprucing up Corinth's north and south garden beds before the spring bulbs pop up and the CES Jr. Master Gardeners plant summer annuals.

Please join us on April 2 from 8-11 to start preparing the beds. We welcome helping hands for the entire time or just an hour or two if that is all you can spare. Bring your rakes, hand pruners and work gloves and meet us at the south entrance!

Also, the Corinth Garden will need water this summer! SIGN UP HERE to help out.

Thank you,

The Garden Committee

VOLUNTEER FOR WALKING WEDNESDAYS:

The Walking and Biking Wednesdays program encourages all students to walk or ride their bike to school at least four times per semester. The program promotes healthy habits, reduces traffic congestion, boosts our sense of community and encourages our cities to provide safe routes to school. Our Spring walking dates are April 6, 13, 20 and 27 , AND May 4.

One responsibility of the program is to provide a Walking School Bus for students who may not live within walking distance of the school. Our walking school bus provides two bus stop locations, one at Leawood Presbyterian Church and the other at 3508 West 89th Street. We rely on volunteers to lead the walking school bus and ensure our students have a safe route to school.

Here are the many ways you can help as a volunteer:

1. Walking School Bus Leader-this volunteer ensures students leave the drop-off site on time (bikers first, then walkers), leads the walkers to school and provides safety at the front of the line.

2. Walking School Bus Caboose-this volunteer ensures safety at the end of the line. Many times younger children end up at the back of the walking line and may need extra assistance.

3. Stationary Volunteer-this volunteer will stand in a designated spot along the walking route. Your job is to boost safety along the route, prevent running, remind the students to stay on the sidewalks and to help anyone who may need assistance.

4. Yard Sign Placement-this volunteer will place "walking route" yard signs along our routes. This task must be completed by 7 AM each Walking and Biking Wednesday morning.

5. School Volunteer-this volunteer will assist with walker and bike rider check-in at Corinth Elementary.

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing on the way to school!

The Walking School Bus Committee: Kelly Cannova and Katherine Reeves
