Hello Corinth Families!

Eventually, this quote echoes in my head at the end of almost every mad March:

"Oh, somewhere in this favoured land the sun is shining bright,
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light;
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children
But there is no joy in Mudville—mighty Casey has struck out."

-Casey at the Bat, Ernest Lawrence Thayer
Your to-do list for this week:
  • Deadline for ordering any extra yearbooks is Monday (Remember, the PTA provides every student with a yearbook, but this is just for any extra copies you may want).
  • Body Venture is this Thursday! Have you signed up to help?
  • Have any questions for our Superintendent, Dr. Hinson? Join him at the SuperChat at Westridge Middle School Thursday evening.
  • Can you help at the Spring Fling? Signup link is below.

Thanks from Mudville,

Amy McCarthy
PTA President

Please consider one of the following ways you can get involved:

  • Set up Body Venture Exhibit: Set up will be Wed. March 29th, 4:45-6:30 pm. 10-15 adults are needed. Set-up takes approximately 2-3 hrs.
  • Take down Body Venture Exhibit: Take down will be Thurs. March 30th, 3-5 pm. 10-15 adults are needed. Taking down the exhibit takes approximately 2 hrs.
  • Station Presenters: The exhibit has 11 different stations plus a survey activity. A volunteer presenter is needed for the AM session (8:30-12 am) and PM session (11:30-3 pm) for each station. A script will be provided. The only requirement is enthusiasm for working with children!
  • Group Escort: Accompany a group of 8-10 students through the exhibit to help them stay focused.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact Emily Watts. Please go to the sign up genius link to sign up for any of the above positions. The signup genius link is here.

See new flyer here for more information.

If you didn't get a chance to order the class pictures last Thursday, you may call Lifetouch at 1-866-955-8342, or stop by the Corinth office by Monday to fill out a form and leave a check payable to Lifetouch. Thank you!
The Spring Fling (Father-Daughter Dance) is looking for volunteers to help before, during, and after the dance on April 7. Please look at this Signup Genius link to see if you can help!

Spring Walking School Bus coming soon!

Corinth Elementary Walking Wednesday campaign encourages students and parents to walk or bike to school. Our program promotes healthy habits, reduces traffic congestion, boosts our sense of community, and encourages our cities to provide safe routes to school.

Please plan on walking or biking with your student(s) on Wednesday April 5, 12, 19, and 26. Our program also provides Walking School Bus drop-off sites for parents who would like their child to participate, but may live too far for them to walk, or are not able to join them.

Are you a parent who would like to assist with Walking Wednesdays? If so, sign up here.

Need more information? Please contact Nicole Harris, this year’s PTA Walking School Bus Chair at (816) 665-3095 or by email.

Join us for this year’s Dragon Dash – Saturday, April 29th, 2017!

5K starts at 7:45am; 1-mile Fun Run at 7:50am. Sign up before the price increases on April 5th. Invite friends, family – ANYONE can participate. All proceeds support the Corinth PTA.

2016-2017 Corinth Yearbook

We know that one of the most treasured items from your child’s school years is their yearbook. That’s why the Corinth PTA makes sure that each Corinth student receives a complimentary yearbook funded from the PTA dues collected throughout the year. This will be a full color yearbook with 60 pages of highlights and events from the school year.

However, if your child needs an additional yearbook, you can purchase an extra one:

  • Bring a check in the amount of $16 to the office, made payable to “Corinth PTA.”
  • Please note “your child’s name” and “yearbook” on the check.
  • Send an email to Laura Cribb to make sure your additional yearbook is added to the total order.
  • Please send your email and bring your check to the office by March 27, 2017.
Mark your calendars for another parent coffee scheduled for April 11th, hosted by the hospitality committee. Mr. Lowe and the PBIS committee are going to speak about the PBIS model (what it is and how we as parents can reinforce it at home). Come socialize with other parents, and learn a little more about how our school operates!
Get ready to get your groove on! The mother-son dance is April 21 from 7-9. Registration forms and payment are due to the office by April 14. See attached flyer for more information, and registration form!

I hope everyone had a safe and fun spring break with family! We will be starting our Running Club directly after school this Wednesday, March 22nd. I have attached a parent permission form that will need to be filled out and returned to me for your child to participate. Also, attached is a Corinth Kids’ Marathon sheet that students can use to log their physical activity leading up to the Dragon Dash. If your child chooses to complete the Corinth Kids’ Marathon, please sign and return the form to me the week after the Dragon Dash for your child to earn an extra recess and to be recognized at the next PBIS assembly. This can be great way for students to challenge themselves to achieve a goal while being physically active in the process. Please contact me with any questions. Have a great week!

FOOD SERVICE….Did you know…………

Did you know there are Nutrition Standards for All Foods Sold in School called ‘Smart Snacks in Schools’? The guidelines went into effect July 1, 2014. The law has specific nutrition standards for all foods and beverages soldto students outside the school meal programs; on the school campus; and at any time during the school day. This includes foods and beverages sold a la carte in the cafeteria, in school stores, at snack bars, through fundraising, from vending machines or any other venues that sell food to students – including coffee shops and bake sales. The school day is defined from the midnight before, to 30 minutes after the end of the instructional school day. For more information, please visit the Smart Snacks section of the SMSD Food Service webpage.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation Smart Snacks Product Calculator can be used for food and beverage items to determine if they meet the nutrition standards. Print off the results page summary along with a copy of the product’s label for documentation. This documentation should be submitted to the school’s nurse to request approval for a fundraising event.

Don’t forget – if your child receives free or reduced meals, they are eligible for one breakfast and one lunch per day as part of this benefit. All breakfast and lunch meal choices are available for all students regardless of eligibility status.

The school breakfast menus, lunch menus, and other nutrition information are available on the district’s website.

See attached Nutrition Nuggets flyer for more healthy tips.

May 23-25, 3-5 pm. See flyer for more information.
