The Dragon DASH Digest

Your Corinth PTA Newsletter
Week of April 25-29, 2016
Hello Corinth Families!

It's time again for the Dragon Dash! For the 13th year in a row, Corinth is holding this 5k/1-mile fun run, for walkers and runners of all levels. We encourage everyone to come out on Saturday morning to support the Corinth PTA.

In the mean time, you can start warming up, by walking or biking to school on Wednesday. Last week we had 186 Dragons participating (pretty good considering the weather!). Let's top that number this week! If Mission Road is under construction, the 89th Street Walking School Bus will not run, but you can start at 83rd (Leawood Presbyterian).

And don't forget: this is also Spirit Week. Dragons are encouraged to dress up in different themes each day:
-Monday: Pajamas
-Tuesday: Favorite Sports Team/Athlete
-Wednesday: Inside-Out Clothes/Crazy Hair
-Thursday: Super Hero
-Friday: Corinth Spirit Wear or Dragon Dash shirt

Have a great week! I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday morning!

Erin Herbst
PTA President
TO DO THIS WEEK:

1. Before Wednesday at Midnight: Register Online for Dragon Dash

The 13th Annual Corinth Dragon Dash Presented by Larson Building Company is a huge (and fun!) event for the Corinth community. Walkers and runners of all levels are welcome to participate in the 5K or 1-mile fun run.

Join us on Saturday, April 30
Race Starts at 7:45 a.m.
Corinth Parking Lot (South Side)

After Wednesday at Midnight, you may register in-person at packet pickup, but prices go up:

Thursday April 28
2:30-6:00pm

Friday April 29
7:30am-9:00am
2:30-4:00pm

April 30
6:30am-7:30am

2. ASAP: Volunteer for Dragon Dash

If you are not running or walking, we could use your help! It takes many hands to make this a safe and fun experience for all.
We still need:
-7 course monitors - cheer people on while enjoying a cup of coffee!!
-8 food distribution - help at the food tents after the race
-3 kids tent
-5 clean up

For questions, contact Margaret Chaffee.
3. Wednesday: Walk or Bike To School

The Walking and Biking Wednesdays program encourages all students to walk or ride their bike to school at least four times per semester. The program promotes healthy habits, reduces traffic congestion, boosts our sense of community and encourages our cities to provide safe routes to school. Our Spring walking dates are April 6, 13, 20, 27, and May 4.

One responsibility of the program is to provide a Walking School Bus for students who may not live within walking distance of the school. Our walking school bus provides two bus stop locations, one at Leawood Presbyterian Church and the other at 3508 West 89th Street. We rely on volunteers to lead the walking school bus and ensure our students have a safe route to school.

We still need many volunteers to make this safe and successful for all our Dragons. Volunteering is easy - especially if you are already planning on walking with your student.

6. Friday: Turn in your Variety Show Registration Forms

It’s time for the 20th Annual Corinth Dragons Variety Show

Student Auditions for the Variety Show will be: Wednesday, May 4th, 3:20-5:00 pm, Music Room

This will be the ONLY time for auditions!!!

As your Dragons plan their acts, please keep the following in mind:

  • All performances are limited to 2 minutes!
  • If you plan to sing, there can be NO LIP-SYNC or sing-a-longs! Only background music can be used.
  • Each student can only be in ONE act (absolutely NO exceptions!)
  • You cannot change your act after your audition is accepted.

If you are interested in signing up for an audition, please fill out the attached registration form and return it to the office by Friday, April 29th.

Late registrations will not be accepted. You will be notified of your exact audition time prior to May 4th. We are asking for one parent from each group to act as the agent. Parent contact information is required on the form.

The Variety Show will be on the last day of school, Monday, May 23rd at 8:30 a.m.

7. Monday, May 2: Play Golf

We need golfers to represent Corinth at the annual "Big 9” Golf Scramble Tournament! The tournament is being held at Oakwood Country Club on Monday, May 2nd with an 8 am shotgun start, and it includes teams from other East area elementary schools. Your participation directly benefits Corinth. There are lots of fun contests planned so sign up before all the spots are full!
Please see the link for more details and player sign up, and contact PAUL BARBRE with any questions or to inquire about sponsorship opportunities - mobile/text or email. An additional sign up for volunteers will be coming soon.
