Week of May 2-6, 2016
Hello Corinth Families!

What luck our Dragons have! It seems that no matter how gloomy the forecast, the skies always clear just in time for Dragon Dash! And fortunately, they did again this year.

There are so many people to thank (see below!). And we really could not have done any of this without the hundreds who ran, walked, and donated.

And speaking of thanks, this week is Teacher Appreciation Week. See below for some things you and your Dragons can do to make their week even more special!

Don't forget that Thursday is a half-day, and there is no school on Friday.

Have a great week!

Erin Herbst
PTA President

5. All Week: Make Teachers' Wishes Come True!

Now that Dragon Dash is over, we are rounding our last leg of the school year and sprinting toward summer! Soon our kiddos will be able to stay up late, sleep in and play outside in the warm sunshine. But what got us to this point? Our Dragon-a-rific staff, of course!
The “Dragons Give Back” Program is a program to reward these hardworking creatures. We asked the Corinth Staff for two “wishes,” or items they would find useful in their future work next year. If you would like, please review the list and sign up to purchase an item. After you have made the purchase, you and your child can bring it directly to the specified staff member. Granted wishes need to be provided by the last day of school.
Each teacher has up to two wishes. They have kept their requests $50 or under. Parents can sign up to grant one or multiple wishes. Please also consider supporting all staff. If your child’s teacher has had their wish already granted, consider making a purchase for another staff member. Our Dragon staff ALL work hard! Not all staff has had a chance to provide their wishes yet, so please check back during the week. More wishes will be available.
Please sign up now! Contact Ann Lilak, with any questions.

Fall Fest Chair Needed!

Does your family enjoy the Corinth Fall Fest? We are so grateful for their work in the past years, but our chairs are stepping down. They will continue to provide support and guidance, and all the details are in place; we just need a leader (or two) in order to keep this event alive! We must fill this role before the end of this school year!

While Fall Fest is still a while away (September 23), we want to make sure that it continues to be one the most fun and anticipated events at Corinth. If you are interested in chairing or volunteering on the committee, please contact Amy McCarthy.
Notice of General PTA Meeting

Please join us on Monday, May 23, at 8 a.m. in the Cafeteria (before the Talent Show), for a brief General Meeting, so that we may:

1. Vote in the PTA Board for 2016-17;
2. Approve the use of PTA funds for the Corinth Maker Space; and
3. Approve the amendment of the Corinth PTA Standing Rules to a) define the formula for collecting PTA dues, and b) refine the structure of the Board to reflect the current needs of the PTA.

Thanks so much to Mr, Lowe, Mrs. Huerter and Mrs. Maguire for putting up with all the chaos in the office last week. And, again thanks to Mr. Lowe, Mr. Ryder and all the teachers and staff for supporting the Dragon Dash by volunteering and participating. More than anything else, thanks to our families for coming out and supporting a great fundraiser and community event.

May 13/14: Prairie School 150th Anniversary. Prairie is the first school in the district to commemorate this milestone and we invite you, your families and your staff to come help us celebrate. Open House - Friday, 5/13 - 5:00-8:00 pm. 150th Fair - Saturday, 5/14 - 3:00-8:00 pm. CLICK HERE for more information.

FOOD SERVICE….Did you know…………

Did you know that money on a student’s meal account will roll over to next year? Whatever money is on their account the last day of school will transfer to next year even if your student changes schools within the district. Negative balances will also transfer so it’s important to clear those up before the end of school.

Seniors – Any money left on a senior’s account will be refunded. After the senior’s account has been reconciled, the refunds are automatically sent by mail in late June.

Free and Reduced meal applications will be available for the 2016-2017 school year on July 11. You will be able to apply for the program online and it will be available at on July 11. We encourage you to use the online application process as it will speed up the approval process. If you don’t have access to a computer, you can visit the food service office and apply online there. Paper applications will still be available in our Food Service office at 4401 W. 103rd St. in the Indian Creek Technology Center or at the school. A new application (per family) must be submitted each year. If you receive state assistance, call the food service office at 913-993-9710 before completing an application. Please apply before school starts so you can begin receiving your benefits the first day of school. It can take up to 10 days to process your application and you will be responsible for any meals your student buys before your application is processed.

Don’t forget – if your child receives free or reduced meals, they are eligible for one breakfast and one lunch per day as part of this benefit. All breakfast and lunch meal choices are available for all students regardless of eligibility status.

The school breakfast menus, lunch menus, and other nutrition information are available on the district’s website.
